Ear cropping

I’ve always been personally against ear/tail cropping

A few debates I’ve heard:

It prevents infections: A lot of people believe that cropping ears prevent dobies from infection but it’s the opposite. Doberman aren’t prone to infection so cropping their ears makes them more likely to have increased debris and internal post surgery infections

Risk of injury: Some people debate that cutting tails lowers the risk of tail injury but most if not all of the time that’s incorrect. Most working breeds nowadays don’t actually work and even if they did the chance of them needing an amputation is incredibly low

Guard dogs: I understand cropped ears do look more intimating but it’s not your dogs responsibility

Aesthetics: Ultimately the reason behind cropping today is aesthetics. I don’t understand how it’s normalized to cut off ears for no cause.

I hear a lot of people tell me it’s not a big deal but to me it is because it’s painful and pointless. Its like if your parents cut your ear lobes off because they liked the way it looked

Some people compare this to getting kids ears pierced and while that is a massive size difference (a small piercing hole vs an entire limb/ chunk of tissue being cut off) I also disagree with really young kids getting piercings. I don’t think you should get your two year olds ears pierced or any kid unless they tell you they want it done for themselves. I could be wrong on some things but id like to hear options or why it’s justified for you

thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

Believe in God but struggling to like him

I‘ve been a Christian my entire life. Recently (2/3 yrs) I’ve been questioning the fairness and goodness of God. I started doing a lot of research and reread portions of the Bible, what I saw disturbed me. There are so many terrible stories in the Bible that a lot of Christian’s I’ve spoken with sweep under the rug or get uncomfortable when they’re brought up.

For example; The killings of Egyptian children, the flood, Canaan, Amalekites, David’s son etc. These are all examples of killings directed or done by God. I’m having an extremely hard time understanding how this is just or loving. I could (but have a hard time) understanding the adults being punished in these circumstance. But the children?

1 Samuel 15:3 states

Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.

God is directing his people to kill children AND infants. It’s also said a few more times in other passages in different situations (Deuteronomy 20: 16-17, Numbers 31: 17, Genesis 6: 5-7)

Most people I’ve spoken to about this defend the killings because they were either for justice, prevention, or punishment. I just don’t know how to make myself believe that killing a child in any circumstance is ok. Like David’s baby for example, God killed his child as a form of punishment. Not only was the infant killed he was struck down with a terrible illness and didn’t even die straight away. He suffered for a week. How is this loving or fair? I don’t understand how killing a child is the right way to punish someone else.

I understand that these are from the Old Testament, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. I question lots of things regarding God. Childhood cancer, miscarriages, painful illnesses etc. Things that people are subjected to before they’re even born or old enough to understand sin. I struggle to understand why we have to live painful hard lives just because we’re created. It feels unfair, I understand that Adam and Eve messed up but punishing the rest of the human race is… uncalled for

*Edit* thank you to those who have commented and are trying to help me out, I appreciate it. I’d love it if you could share your opinions or views :)
