[CPP Epiphany Rant] - Programming is no joke

Hi CPP Community,

This is just a rant. I'm a 24 yr old data analytics in telecommunication trying to pivot into C++ development for finance. I'm 1 month into C++ and I have come to conclusion C++ is a behemoth. I'm enrolled in Baruch College's C++ for Financial Engineering, but I'm using Bjarne Stroustrup's Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++, 3rd Edition to learn and watching C++20 Fundamentals with Paul Deitel, Course, by Paul J. Deitel as supplementary resources.

It took me 2 days to get through all the drills, exercises, and try_this section for chapter 2 for Programming Principles!

I'm reflecting if I made a mistake choosing C++ over Python. But, tbh, I have been enjoying programming more learning C++ than Python. You can tell I'm weird, but IDK.

I would love to heard about your experience in learning C++ for laughs.

How to speed up filtering for lookml dashboards and have the looker pull data once per day instead of every time it opens?

I'm a Business intelligence analyst and converted all our company tableau dashboards into lookml dashboard. However, the issue is IT is saying all my dashboards are consuming too many TCPU.

We have like 10 dashboard with some holding less than 10 tiles and some holding more than 20 tiles.

Currently, we are trying to move our database from Teradata into GCP but IT is slow.

Users complain that when they add a filter, it takes too long to update. I am unable to use materialized views or PDT because GCP is not yet set up.

Does any have a workaround for this?

Also, how to set lookml dashboards to run once a day instead of running the query everytime someone opens the file?

[2 YoE] - Resume feedback for data analytics transitioning to C++ Developer in finance and securities

I’m currently a business intelligence analyst at a telecommunication company working in consumer credit and would like to transition into Quantitative developer or C++ Developer roles in finance and securities. I'm open to data science roles too.

I am a US Citizen and located in the New York Metropolitan Area and I am applying to jobs in the Northern part of New Jersey and New York City. The role can be 100% in-office, hybrid, or remote, but no relocation. I would like feedback on my resume and my job hunting strategy as I have applied for 100 jobs and have gotten no responses or interviews.

I am using Google Gemini to help me curate my resume to ensure I check all the boxes of the job description before submission. I am connecting with recruiters, professionals, and managers to hopefully get a referral, but to no avail. I am qualified for the role I apply for, but my current strategy is not working.

Please Critic Resume

Hi Reddit,

I am looking to get feedback on my resume. What things I should add, what is missing, what I am doing well? I have applied for tens of jobs and only experienced rejection. I have used AI templates try to get word matches on my resume to bypass the ATS systems and I have gotten zero responses. I recently switched to headless hunter's resume template and still heard nothing. I am trying to transition into a data science/data engineering role or quantitative developer role ideally. My original job tile is business intelligence, but recruiters from career fair to switch it to data engineering since I have a good amount of technical experience.

Thank you in advance

Where to find piano lessons in Brooklyn for $20 a lesson?

Hi,

I am currently looking to learn how to play the piano. I was hoping to find a tutor because I am aware piano instructors charge more. My goal is to familiarize myself and get comfortable with the instrument rather than becoming a master. I do not have a piano at home so I would prefer the location to have a piano to help me practice.

Side note: If you could recommend a budget piano that can help me get started and is portable, what would you recommend?

Budget: $20 to $25

Duration: 6 weeks with 1 lesson per week for an hour

Goal:

- learn proper hand position and posture

- understand the layout of the keyboard

- read basic sheet music (at least simple melodies in one or both hands)

- learn note names and basic rhythm

- play a few simple songs or exercises

- understand chords and simple accompaniment patterns
