Why was this plot point forgotten?

During the island arc, Simon engages in a fight with Batista and basically gets no-diffed and after that Batista resists the urge to take his swords and promises that he’ll do it later, after that Simon is seen feeling wanting to help get tokio from him but can’t because of his weakness wich makes him feel useless and hopeless. I thought that this would lead to him becoming stronger so that he’d fight against him during the war but in the war Simon didn’t even see or mention Batista or the Nue. Why was this plot point not used? I understand that the point of his character wasn’t revenge but it was clearly set up.

What was the point of Simon’s character?

I just finished the fight against Batista and the Nue chimera and couldn’t understand why he wasn’t present at all during this arc. All he did in the entire war was stall 2 mid lvl Choujin that Azuma and Ely low diffed right after the time skip and was too tired to do anything for the rest of the arc. When his backstory was introduced I thought it was setting him up to fight against Nue and avenge his family. And even if you try to say that he wanted to fight the chimera who killed his clan and not Batista or Nue it wouldn’t make sense since we saw that chimera being beaten by Sandek and discarded by Nue. I have no clue what Ishida thought when writing this character and have no idea what future plan he may have for him, I guess he may fight the swordsman who Batista sent to the ocean at the start of the war but I really don’t know.
