Split floor joist

Split floor joist

I have 2x10 floor joists. I have the ceiling open to change lights and I noticed the split near the bottom of the joist that has the orange sprinkler line going through it. The other joists are all fine.

Does this need to be replaced or are there ways to fix it in place? Do I need an engineer?

Sunnata dimmer + companion on dead end 3 way

I am replacing 2 switches on a dead end circuit. The instructions that come with the sunnata dimmer and companion show how to set it up on a standard 3 way. How do I set them up on a dead end 3 way? Does the master dimmer go in the box that has the line coming in and load going out, or do I put the companion in this box?

Which studs can be drilled through?

We had an alcove that we removed to flatten the wall. Looks like it was framed like a window. We have some Romex wire that needs to pass through the framing now. Can I drill a 1/2" hole through the jack and king studs and the middle studs? and how about the cripple studs? There are 3 king studs on each side. This is a shear wall.

Demo company cut into joists. Sigh

I had a demo company in to remove some ceilings for a renovation I'm doing. I noticed they cut into the joists when they were cutting the drywall. The depth of cut varies but it's up to 3/8" on a couple areas. Am I screwed? Do they need to be replaced?

edit: these are floor joists between main floor and upstairs bedroom

I just bought a home and I was in the crawl space under the bathroom and noticed a number of joists have a 4" hole drilled in them for the waste line. They all have at least 2" to the top and bottom edges and they are about 2 feet from the end of the joists (joist are 2x10 11ft long spaced 16"apart). The home is 19 years old and passed inspection when it was being built and none of this plumbing is new since then.

Is this ok or do I need to redo the joists?
