Is it just a me/this season issue or does the game lock people into normal 2v2 matchmaking at the end of every season before the next one starts with no ability to change modes without becoming soft locked?

I just started a few days back and need some help figuring out how to get a good supply of rerun and special tickets going so I can get characters I want from the rerun banner and etc
