Malden Safe Streets stand with local leaders in denouncing ICE

Malden Safe Streets stands with our local leaders🤩 in denouncing ICE's tactics of fear that can prevent families (especially immigrant families) from feeling safe when attending Malden schools.

To see our District 5 State Senate candidates (Carey McDonald for State Senate, State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian, O'Malley for State Senate) responses in supporting the safety of all of Malden's students as they traverse to school check out this video from the forum MSS hosted recently focusing on the topic of transportation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOhh_MYpyME&t=2826s

Malden transportation planner speaks to the Globe on fellow transportation planner's killing

On Monday a 74-year-old woman was killed riding her bike on Rt 6 in Dartmouth. This news comes just as the cycling and safe streets community is mourning the death of 36-year-old transportation planner and activist Louisa Gag who was struck and killed while riding on Tremont St. in Boston.

Malden Safe Streets joins the thousands of community members and activists in remembering Louisa and the tremendous impact her life, and now her tragic death, have had on our community. As an organization, we remain committed to raising awareness, driving dialogue, and tirelessly advocating for investment in safety improvements and accessibility for all, particularly our must vulnerable road users.

Malden’s own Jim Tarr told the Boston Globe that he worked closely with Gag on the Bluebikes system, saying street safety improvements cannot be considered a “nicety or a privilege.”

“We really owe Louisa’s memory an urgency about how we make and remake our streets and our neighborhoods,” Tarr said. “At this point, it’s a moral imperative.”

We could not agree more Jim! Thank you for speaking out, we are here to support you in your efforts to make Malden streets safer for all.

It's a great time for a community walk audit!

It's getting nice out! If you're looking for an excuse besides the weather to get outside how about doing a walk audit? Walk audits help identify street conditions for pedestrians of all kinds and abilities. Each audit performed is a contribution to your community. It helps the city collect data to uncover issues and spots that need some attention.

We've tried to add a bit more fun to it by making it into a quest!

Here are the details:

The form you will fill out for your audit: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1UHPKr4myuZVnfR6s9w6Mi7RazuSW-EcpIPrRghG2uiU/viewform?edit_requested=true

We'll be splitting into teams by Ward. Unlock some emoji badges to be attached to your Ward title for the rest of the year and street cred for being the most active and organized Ward in Malden!!

You're very welcome to be just an observer of the quest and learn from the members of your ward and maybe you can join the next quest!

If you really want to play, there are three levels in this quest. See more information on how to play here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gKALisc5s3Bjw4hBte3Fh3hpOa_pL2rj2T9Rzrp20wI/edit?usp=sharing

The quest will be completed on June 29^(th), 6:30pm-7:30pm with a presentation of your findings to our City's Transportation Planner Jim Tarr and a special surprise guest!

To get started please reach out to your Ward leaders: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gKALisc5s3Bjw4hBte3Fh3hpOa_pL2rj2T9Rzrp20wI/edit?usp=sharing

May the weather and team enthusiasm be in your favor  LET"S GO MALDEN!!!
