Should I remove my thyroid?
Hello everyone! I (36 f) was diagnosed with Graves’ disease in May 2025. I started having symptoms of Graves in March 2025, which was a month after I had Covid for the first time. We found my tsh levels really low at my routine exam in April 2025 and I had more bloodwork following that finding which led to the diagnosis of Graves’ disease in May.
Anyways, I’ve been on methimazole since then and my levels have normalized within one year. My thyroid had even grown about 4-5 times according to my endo but has gone down.
My endo asked me if I still wanted to remove my thyroid as I was pretty set on having it removed but I changed my mind as everything normalized. I still get random high heart rates and get hot easily. I also get pain in my thighs and feel physically tired easily. I have a physically demanding job that I mostly enjoy, but my body has been feeling so tired as each month goes by. I’m not even sure if that tiredness is related to my graves or if it’s just my age. Lol.
I guess I’m just wondering if it’s worth removing my thyroid even though I’m mostly ok aside from being tired. I’ve been chronically tired since I hit puberty though, so idk if it’s worthwhile.
Anyone else remove their thyroid even though they felt mostly ok? I’ve also reached my deductible so I’m wondering if I should squeeze it in!😅
