Monitors for Roland TD07DMK

I just got my Roland TD07DMK drum kit, being a beginning drummer. It fits really nicely in my home studio and sounds good over headphones. However, if I connect the audio output to my audio interface, it sounds like sh*t all of a sudden. The signal clips terribly and somehow it is mono. Also, it does not sound like drums anymore. How could I fix this? Audio over USB? Use a good VST instead of the stock kits? Getting a drum monitor? Use other cables?
My studio monitors are Focal Alpha 50s, which are more than decent flat and revealing monitors. Any help appreciated, thanks!
