I saw this on a how to Youtube video

I saw this cheap way out of buying something to place between my monitor speakers and my freshly made speaker stands. I saw this on Youtube How-to videos. I bought 2 cupcake baking tins, and placed them on top of my Mon. stands. I then went to my doggie treats storage closet and robbed 10 tennis balls, and placed them in the cupcake tins. I then placed each monitor on top of the tennis balls, and I proceeded with very non-technical test of turning the the volume of my 6" KALI monitors, and to my surprise there was only a little if any vibration from the monitors transferring to my monitor stands. I will be exchanging Rinnie's (my German Shepherd) tennis balls for Racket Balls in the near future. Meanwhile I be painting my monitor stands and the cupcake tins, and placing the 4 rubber anti- vibration screw on pad/feet on the bottom of the Stands, and I'm going to place the same pad/feet on the four corners of the two cupcake tins and then I paint the stands, and the tins well, I guess black. Any thoughts please share them.

Advice regarding bleed and guide tracks for drum session.

Hi Reddit, currently I record, mix and produce music from a single large live room. I have a drum recording session coming up in a month and need advice or feedback regarding bleed with this particular session.

The artist I’m working with is new to recording and isn’t comfortable with using a click track but is comfortable with drums. The song is fantastic and is a folky number so I was looking at my options for recording without a click. My first idea was to have the artist play the song in the room with the drummer, but have them positioned as far away from the drums as possible. They would also be separated by a tall and wide baffle that could act as a partition.

I am working with max 8 inputs, 6 are taken up by drums, leaving only 2 for an acoustic/vocal guide. I am used to doing live band recordings but as I’m going to be working with limited inputs, I was worried about capturing a nice clean acoustic and vocal with 2 mics in the room with drums so I relegated this to being a guide track with the intention to re record acoustic and vocals after.

My questions are, if I’m only using the acoustic and vocal recorded with the drums as a guide, and even if I can reduce the source/direct acoustic and vocal from bleeding into the drum mics with the baffle, could I see problems with bleed in the reflections picked up by the drum overheads and room mics?

Also, would this negatively affect the sound of the acoustic and vocal, or would any reflections captured just add a little depth to the recording? Could I encounter phase issues?

Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

My first official home studio

I waited 11 months to get off deployment to come buy this stuff, don’t mind the cables or garbage in the corner we just moved. I’ll start acoustic treatment later

Recommendations for good monitors for beginners

Recommendations for good near-field monitors for beginners.

Hi everyone, I’m learning about music production and would like some recommendations for monitors (I’ll soon have my home studio set up; plus, the space isn’t that small, but it isn’t that big either—in fact, it measures 2 by 3 meters). I know headphones would be the best option right now, but honestly, they really strain my ears, even when I adjust and control the volume; that’s why I’d like to get some monitors—something good quality but not too expensive, because, as I said, I’m new to this. I’ve looked at the iLouD Micro, the Yamaha HS5 and HS4, and the Adam Audio D3V. I’m open to any suggestions.

Should I leave my Audient iD14 MKII on all the time when I’m not using it?

I recently bought an Audient iD14 MKII and I’m really happy with it. It’s connected to my PC using a USB-C to USB-A cable because my computer doesn’t have a USB-C port.
When I shut down my PC, I noticed that the Audient stays powered on and never turns off. Should I disconnect it when I’m not using it? I’m worried that leaving it on all the time could damage it over time or cause overheating.
Or is it completely fine to leave it connected and powered on all the time?

My home studio

18 year old guitarist and producer from Austin, been working on this room for about 6 months and I’m finally getting to make music here, I still need to do a lot of sound treatment but the couches and rugs are helping. Any tips for the journey?

Im a sound engineer but I wanted something faster for my own workflow, especially when working with stems from hardware setups / SD recordings.

So I ended up building a simple app that:
takes stems or add a song and you will have automacally 4 stems on the mixing section

you can even upoload a video format and automacally extract the audio for processing,
auto mixes (EQ, comp, limiter, imaging)
lets you quickly tweak or add FX

exports ready WAV in minutes

You can also load a full track and split it into stems and work backwards.

(especially from people who hate complicated setups 😄

If you like to check it let me know

Anyone else experience gear fatigue?

Not sure what I'm looking for here, but I have a fairly small but respectible setup at home, featuring a PC with Reaper, a MacBook with Logic and FL Studio on both. As far as hardware goes, I have the usual MIDI keyboards, a couple of synths, a BOSS RC-505 looper, a Novation Circuit Tracks, some guitars, mics and a mixer.

Despite having these fun toys, I almost always end up just playing my guitar into Reaper with the same old plugins and VSTs I've used for the last decade... and I never do anything but make short little riffs that ultimately collect digital dust on my harddrive.

I follow all of these amazing artists who have similar setups to me, and they do the coolest stuff. Whenever I try to exit my typical track-stacking recording in Reaper to explore looping, sampling or live synth jamming, I get stuck in a sort of fatigue of not knowing where to start. I'm well versed in MIDI chaining, using all of the In's and Out's and live mixing. I could set all of that up for someone else, but when I try to do it for myself, I get hung up on things like "which device should be the master clock?" or "how many bars should I set my looper tracks to?" or "How should I implement the groovebox into all of this in a way that makes sense for more than a single idea?"

Just looking for some inspiration, validation or ideas on how to make use of what I have. I almost feel bad that I'm sitting on a pile of gear that rarely gets used. I have no intention of turning music into a career or anything, but I do want it to be more than a hobby and maybe entertain or inspire others.

Really proud of my little setup!

Wanted to share a picture of my little home studio space I've been making. Unfortunately very restricted on space but I'm making it work. Just got the SSL UF8 and it's amazing. Total game changer for me

What do you think?

Color inspiration for my room?

Hello guys!

So, this is my home studio. Worked in it for half a year but now feeling to change the color theme. Kinda feeling a bit dark in there. No room for creative, it feels like..

So do you guys have any inspiration or example for a nice color theme for a home studio? Open for everything! PS: I can just change the color of the panels. It's not fixed. Same for the carpet.

Greetings and have a nice day y'all!
