Introducing Turbo Velma!
I've recently acquired a Hammond T412 and married it to my MIDI station with my Korg MIDI brain and Ewi 4000 and Yamaha MIDI controllers. I got the organ free and her deceased prior owner was named Velma, thus the organs name. Added the Turbo moniker with the MIDI addition. She is too much fun
Day 2 with Mpc one G2.
This is my first Mpc. Switched after many years with Maschine. The learning curve wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Everything makes relative sense for the most part. Also shoutout to YouTube and ChatGPT. We’re so lucky dude lol.

What are you guys working on??
High pitched noise when playing electric guitar
I have this issue and I can't seem to find where it's coming from. Whenever I sit down to play guitar, I get this high pitched noise that's ringing in the background and it's really annoying. I mainly play single coils and know of 60 cycle hum but it's not that. When I'm in humbucker position, it's gone.
I sit in front of my desk where I have two monitors, my PC, my Audient EVO4, my mic which is muted most of the time. Everything is plugged into a power strip which is plugged into a wall outlet. I tried several different power strips and they all have this kind of noise.
I play through HX Stomp XL with 1/4 cable going into an instrumental input in EVO4. HX Stomp has recently been in repair and I mentioned this issue, though it also happened without it when I plugged in directly and used plugins. I tried different guitars and cables, even without a guitar, if I touch the tip of a cable it produces this noise.
If I play through Stomp somewhere else in the apartment using headphones, there is no noise. I would assume it has to do with EMI since I have some lamps around me with smart bulbs and dimmers but I have this noise when they are all turned off and had it before when there were no lamps. Also saw a video that EVO's plastic shell can be problematic because it doesn't isolate from EMI but I'm not sure that's my case. I'm going insane with this noise, just want to play guitar and have fun. Does anyone know how to get rid of it???

Never buy a used Komplete Kontrol
I bought a used s88 from Guitar Center. I got it home and hooked up only to find out that the software was already registered to another person so I can’t get it. What is the point of that? Do they think the keyboard can be in two places at once? Will probably just have to return it after wasting a lot of time. Guitar Center can’t help. Very frustrating experience. I would buy a new one, but I don’t want to deal with shipping and who knows when it shows up. No store in the chicago area has a single decent controller. Just toys. Is this a chip shortage?
I just want one, full sounding, easy to program HW synth
Noob setting up a sound lab. So far I'm learning how to use soft synths and record. Mainly a guitar player for years I ignored doing this with any seriousness. No think this is a fairly inexpensive way to start.
I'm thinking hydrasynth for its depth of sounds but worry that it's too complex for a beginner.
Anything else come to mind? Not terribly into vintage mono synths as they are aplenty in the vst world
My plan is to use analog guitar with synths. Not necessarily in a cohesive way
Building bass traps BEHIND cornered speakers or AROUND them?
So I'm having that kind of small room in which both my speakers sit directly in corners. I could pull them out a little bit, but figured that in regards to SBIR it's handier this way. Now I wanna do some DIY treatment to the room and I'm wondering if i can manage to put some treats in the corners right behind the speakers.
Since the speakers are currently pretty much touching the corners, i'm asking myself whether i should pull them away and stuff the corners, or keep them at their current position and build treatment around them so that the speakers would be more or less flush with the absorbers.
In both scenarios the treatment would be at the same position and thickness, only for the second option i would cut out a hole for the speakers instead of pulling them out of the corner.
Do you guys see any advantages, disadvantages or simply stupidity worth mentioning? My guts tell me that pulling them away is only worth it if the treatment is thick enough to fully counter the issues i'd get with increased SBIR for doing so, but cutting a hole in the absorber leaves me with less absorbing material in total, which can also be an argument.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
Turning garage into recording studio: Need help w/ Electrical
Once paint-ready, interior dimensions will be:
27’ length x 23’ width x 8’9” height.
See 2nd img for layout (has AI-suggested receptacles layout, likely not reliable)
I’m trying to determine the best electrical design so I can confidently hire the right electrician to do this best for recording studio use case.
I know studio electricity needs will be higher than existing garage needs. Just not sure how much and what that implies, given existing build and layout.
There’s an existing breaker panel that works great for normal garage needs (see pics). Can I use existing? If not, what is best to replace with?
Additional notes: I bought an 18k BTU mini-split that will be installed after finalizing electrical. Want to future proof this in case even more electrical needs go up. Would like it to be to code, as added square footage. That being said, I’m thinking I’ll keep existing insulated garage door for now. Then hear how that sounds proofed/treated that way. Then go from there if/when we need to remove garage door.
Any help is much much appreciated! Got 2 baby daughters and I need a safe music haven for sanity lol.
TL;DR Turning garage into studio. Have opportunity to update electrical. Want to do this right the 1st time 🙏🏼💙🤘🏼.
What audio interface should i choose between these?

Doing a lot with a small studio
I sit at the intersection of fully digital and old school recording artist. This helps me get the most out of a small home studio. The pictures show my current setup.
Actually playing the instruments is important to me, but sometimes it's impractical. I sold the drum set a few years ago and use loops and samples now for most percussion. But of course I shake the tambourine and maracas as needed.
I love how having everything already set up makes it easy to capture musical ideas when they arise. There's nothing that stops the music flow more than an instrument in the closet. Of course I keep a few of my lesser used instruments in the closet and make sure the keys and guitars are always at hand.
The best part of digital is how easy it is to collaborate with people anywhere in the world. These online communities have made it possible for me to record tunes with people all across North America, Europe, and over in Japan. My younger self would never have believed that.
This is my fifth home studio. I have had everything from a four-track, to a full band room with drums, amps and Conn organ; to my current setup that's very lean but powerful.
I record under a few names, Doctor Coffee, B3ND3R, Famous Coffee, and The Latenighters are the most recent.
Tell me why you love your home studio or how it has evolved over the years. Share pics if you can.
Help choosing 5" studio monitors for a very small bedroom
Hi Guys,
I'm looking to buy a pair of 5" studio monitors for my home studio, which is located in a very small and narrow bedroom.
Here are my room dimensions:
Metric: 3.60m (Length) x 2.10m (Width) x 2.55m (Height)
Imperial: ~12ft x 7ft x 8.3ft
The room is barely treated (just some basic cheap foam from AliExpress), so acoustics aren't great. Because the room is so narrow (7ft width), the desk will be placed against the short wall, meaning the monitors will have to be placed pretty close to the wall behind them.
I already own a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro headphones, which I use as my main reference tool to bypass the room's acoustic issues.
I’m currently torn between two main options:
Focal Alpha 50 Evo: Love the front-ported design which seems safer for placing close to the wall, and I heard they have low self-noise (hiss) and great punch.
Kali Audio IN-5: The 3-way coaxial design sounds amazing for midrange clarity and stereo imaging, and the boundary EQ switches seem useful for a bad room, but I'm slightly worried about build quality or potential hiss.
(Side note: Genelec 8030C was on my radar, but I feel like they might be an overkill/wasted budget given my room's poor acoustics).
Which of these would you recommend for my specific situation? Are there any other options I should consider?
Thanks!
An update
So my weekend cleaning turned into a week long cleaning lol.
Pic two is how it was before, from my last post. Pic one is how far I got. Everything that I use, all my outboard gear, interfaces, etc, is connected. I ordered a cable sleeve cover that will go over the bundle but I am quite pleased with the progress. Now I have to test and make sure all my routing is correct and accurate. Last time, I got all but one off. Hoping today I get it perfect!
UPDATE: Just finished testing all my routing. EVERYTHING WAS ROUTED CORRECTLY!! I did however have a few loose cables that I had to put in all the way. But they were in the correct jack!
4 Guitars, 1 Vintage Fender Bassman (Tone Test)
Hi all, I've put together a little video testing clean and driven tones through my vintage Fender Bassman 50 amp using all 4 of my electric guitars. No pedals or post production, just the raw audio through a Beyerdynamic M160 ribbon mic through a Warm Audio 273 mic pre.
The amp settings for clean and driven remain the same so you can really hear the difference in the guitars! Which guitar is your favourite? https://youtu.be/TjZCsDuO4YI
