Recommendations Needed

I’ve been wanting to take my parents on a day trip to the Summit of Mt. Washington. Most likely will take the Cog versus the auto road because it’s a little more of a unique experience. That leads me to my first question… are dogs allowed on the Cog Railway? I couldn’t find info about it, but I recall seeing/hearing it was allowed. That will ultimately be the deciding factor for which we choose for the summit ride.

Not local to the area and I’m only ever really up there to hit the trails. We’re about three hours away. Post-summit, it’d be great if we could find a nice spot for food that has outdoor seating allowing dogs. Don’t want to have to drive too far given our ride home will be long, but depending on recommendations, we’ll see what’s the best option for us. Any favorite spots?

I’ll be looking myself at some short trail options as well, but recommendations for that would be appreciated. My dad’s mobility is not great with his Parkinson’s, so please take that into consideration. Stairs/hills are fine, but distance is the concern. Perhaps a short walk to a waterfall. My first thought was Glen Ellis Falls.

Thanks in advance!

SoBo Thru Hike August-September 2026

Hey y'all. I'll be starting my SoBo attempt on August 10, 2026. I'm looking for more sets of eyes on my LighterPack for thoughts/suggestions. At this point, it's less about getting my pack weight down and more about if I'm forgetting any important/essential items.

I have 5 or so years of experience hiking/backpacking in the Northeast, so I feel pretty confident in my abilities and preparation going into this. Looking forward to slowing life down for a bit and tackling a new challenge in my life.

Appreciate the input. Cheers!
