Brits are so unprepared for the heat.
Ok so I lived half my life in the tropics, half in the UK.
Brits romanticize "Indian summers" but they suffer in the heat waves as the climate collapses. Unnecessary suffering!
I try to sort of explain stuff to them but half the time they think I don't know what I'm talking about and continue to suffer.
Our homes here are built to trap heat so most of the time it doesn't cool down enough overnight if it's too hot. But the double insulation works to your advantage if you close the windows, block the light, trap the cold morning air in for as long as possible.
But nope people absolutely want to keep windows open at all times. It's insane. And they wonder why they can't breathe. Then they say it's too hot in the house so they go outside, but not in the shade! Loads of people sit IN the sun to "get a tan and enjoy the breeze". Pimm's and beers. Alcohol doesn't hydrate enough. And people get heatstroke all the time.
I know my friends mean well but they're often joke about how I cover up so much when I go out in the sun "no one cares it's 2026, don't worry about showing skin, aren't you hot omg take that thing off" and it's literally just a very loose white linen thing with long sleeves. I tell them it keeps me far cooler than a tank top and I don't want to burn but they don't believe me!
More than once some of them have got so tired/burnt after a day out and need to sleep and recover for the rest of the weekend. It's heatstroke why are you in denial??. Like I get so worried for them sometimes. We went to a beer festival once, I got so much shit for bringing an umbrella. Brolly ain't only for rain! I grew up in in Asia walking home from school in the sun with an umbrella in the shade, never got heatstroked. Then they think I'm the only one sort of doing okay with the heat because I'm from a hot country. Aaaaaaaa. No it's a tropical country! it's temperate, this shite is too hot even for me.
I just don't understand the denial.
Anyways, rant over.
