Yesterday was a beautiful day for the annual Millville “Oct Fest” and pumpkin weigh off. It was a tough, wet year for pumpkin growing, but there were some respectable entrants. The winner from the greenhouse-raised group weighed in at 409 lbs, while the leading field entrant was ~105 lbs.

Thanks to the organizers and the bakers of baked goods.

If anyone wants to try their hand at growing an enormous pumpkin next year, then you’ll want to get your seeds planted (indoors) by March.

Just curious what music fest is tonight? Very audible in New Edinburgh (was singing along to the Goo Goo Dolls a couple of minutes ago).

Google/Gemini’s first best guess was the Silent Disco. 🤔 (We’re building a society on this slop?) After I explained that silent discos are typically silent, its next best guess was Riverside Festival? Their act for tonight is yet to be announced (https://festivalriverside.ca/en/home/#artistes), so I suppose it could be.

I have a few impatiens that look kind of like this. At first I thought, “root rot”, because I have several that look kind of like this. I uprooted one to transplant it, but it had no roots. Then I paused and observed, “these leaves looked munched on”.

At the same time, I noticed very nearby an entirely different plant (whose name I forget) is also looking a bit worse for wear. They’re native, so I was kind of hoping they would (slowly) spread.

I have a crap ton of sow/carpenter/rolypoly bugs around. Could this be their handiwork? Whoever it is, what is the appropriate action to take?
