Neutering an Aussiedoodle offers benefits like eliminating reproductive health risks (e.g., testicular cancer) and reducing unwanted behaviors like roaming or urine marking. However, removing hormones too early can increase the risk of joint issues (like hip dysplasia) and certain cancers. The ideal timing often depends on your dog's size. \[[1](https://www.fineanddandyaussiedoodles.com/post/spay-and-neuter-good-or-bad), [2](https://www.royalkennelclub.com/health-and-dog-care/health-dog-care/health/health-and-care/a-z-of-health-and-care-issues/neutering-a-dog-castrating-and-spaying/), [3](https://www.facebook.com/groups/1444627482294745/posts/6472688282821948/), [4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZcTJfpCWRI)\]%5C%5D)
**The Pros**
**Behavioral Improvements:** Neutering typically reduces hormone-driven behaviors like mounting, urine marking, and the urge to roam in search of a mate. \[[1](https://www.royalkennelclub.com/health-and-dog-care/health-dog-care/health/health-and-care/a-z-of-health-and-care-issues/neutering-a-dog-castrating-and-spaying/), [2](https://www.facebook.com/groups/1444627482294745/posts/6472688282821948/)\]%5C%5D).
**Health Advantages:** It entirely eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and significantly reduces the likelihood of perianal tumors and prostate issues as the dog ages. \[[1](https://www.reddit.com/r/AussieDoodle/comments/1spfmon/anyone_regret_getting_their_dog_neutered/), [2](https://www.fineanddandyaussiedoodles.com/post/spay-and-neuter-good-or-bad), [3](https://www.smalldoorvet.com/learning-center/medical/neutering-dogs-everything-you-need-to-know/), [4](https://kainervet.com/health-benefits-of-neutering-your-male-dog/), [5](https://spallandharveyanimalhospital.ca/spay-vs-neuter-your-guide-to-dog-and-cat-sterilization-in-kelowna/)\]%5C%5D)
**Population Control:** Prevents accidental litters and contributes to managing the pet overpopulation crisis. \[[1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1LwDcVvTKg&t=2), [2](https://www.reddit.com/r/AussieDoodle/comments/1spfmon/anyone_regret_getting_their_dog_neutered/)\]%5C%5D)
**The Cons**
**Health & Joint Risks:** Studies—such as those on UC Davis Research—suggest that removing sex hormones too early, especially before growth plates fully close, can be linked to higher risks of hip dysplasia, ligament tears (like CCL ruptures), and specific cancers. \[[1](https://www.fineanddandyaussiedoodles.com/post/spay-and-neuter-good-or-bad), [2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWXxhKH0JP8&t=297), [3](https://www.reddit.com/r/AussieDoodle/comments/op683g/when_to_neuter_your_ad/)\]%5C%5D)
**Metabolic Changes:** Neutered dogs have a lower metabolic rate and may be more prone to obesity if their diet and exercise routine aren't properly managed. \[[1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1LwDcVvTKg&t=2), [2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWXxhKH0JP8&t=297)\]%5C%5D)
**Surgical Risks:** As with any procedure requiring anesthesia, there are minor risks of surgical or recovery complications. \[[1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWXxhKH0JP8&t=297), [2](https://www.facebook.com/groups/1444627482294745/posts/6472688282821948/)\]%5C%5D)

I want to do the best thing , but I’m not sure what the best is. I have read quite a few articles on this topic and I really don’t know if neutering my boy is the right thing to do. Roaming is definitely not an issue, on the contrary, he is 100% Velcro, lol. I’m not concerned about him being able to engage in a fling.
The health advantages are the only reason I would proceed With the surgery .
Likewise the disadvantages to his health is why I hesitate to proceed.
I also don’t like anesthesia!
This may be a Funny question, but oh well, I’m curious —— is it frustrating for an un neutered dog not being able to mate. Is it unhealthy for them.
Next time , I will start filming at the beginning of his zoomies , although he is zipping along quite well, he was slowing down at this point.
I think my mom is going to make me get a bath now. I tried to do it myself , like the birds, but it didn’t work out too well .
I was right. A visor trim is next.
