New house build - Toilet smell!

Hi all

We have moved into our new self build house in the countryside the past 6 weeks

In our house there is a small bathroom (toilet and handbasin only) and there is no window in this bathroom. Our mistake! We never thought about this in the design but when the block work was being done, it became a concern. At the time we said to our builder could we at least put an extractor fan in this bathroom but we were advised the MVHR would take care of any smells

Roll on to 6 weeks in the house and there is a definite lingering smell coming from the toilet. It’s not incredibly foul smelling but would definitely leave you recoiling a bit

Any advice on this from anyone who may have experienced this? We will ask our builder but I’m trying to troubleshoot today

1st night - New House - Noise

Hi

My wife and I moved into our new build house yesterday- all was going to plan until we settled down for bed!!

There is a persistent noise emanating from the ceiling. It would be similar to an extractor fan being left on in the ensuite. I even put in earplugs and could still hear it. My wife noticed it yesterday during the day and thought it was farmers locally working outside

From reading up, it could be the mechanical heat recovery system. Anyone got a similar experience? We are panicking this noise is for good. After spending close to 500k to build this house I’m so deflated

Thanks

Terrible Galway Traffic - This evening

Anyone know what was going on with traffic this evening? I spent an hour crawling from the hospital roundabout to Dunnes Terryland from 4:40-5:40pm

No sign of roadworks, burst water mains, no accident thankfully or no rain either which are often the cause

New Self Build Irish Water Connection

Hi guys

House is almost built. During build process have been using agricultural Irish water connection. Application to Irish Water for Domestic Connection was not submitted (Don’t ask, I’m beyond mad..!)

What are we facing here? Has anyone moved into their house with the agricultural connection being the source of water? Any challenges faced on final drawdown?

Before I get the plethora of “you should have known better or how stupid”, I know!! Thanks for any advice

Kitchen - Cherrymore

Hi

I posted this Saturday but got no responses. Surely I’m not the only one in Ireland who has a kitchen ordered with Cherrymore?

If so have you learnt of any news as a result of the fire and whether it impacts you?

Thanks

Cherrymore Kitchen Fire

Just after hearing there was a significant fire at Cherrymore Kitchens HQ warehouse in Donegal last night.

Firstly thankfully, nobody was physically hurt

Secondly, my wife and myself are waiting on our kitchen to be delivered from Cherrymore in 2 weeks. We are concerned!

Anyone else in this boat tonight? Will call the Castlebar store tomorrow but anyone on the ball today in the know, would be great to hear

New House Build - Moving In Date?

Hi 👋

We are closing in on the completion of our new self build. We expect all internal finishes (floor, tiling, bathroom, doors, painting) to be finished by mid June. The kitchen will be fitted by 23rd June (we hope) but there will be a further 2 week delay for counter

If someone’s been in a similar boat, can you move in at that stage (23rd June) or do you have to wait until the bank have given the last drawdown?

Thanks
