My first Detention..

I knew after 5 minutes of scrolling on social media after waking up that heading towards Jantar Mantar today will result in detention at the least.

I took my time. I am not the fearless kind like some of the emerging leaders. A couple of my friends had agreed to join with me but I knew somewhere that they will back out and they did.

I scrolled and scrolled. It made me sad. And I knew I will not be at peace unless I at-least stepped out to see what was happening with my own two eyes.

I was out for 5 mins, encountered two barricades and started recording a video and the uniformed guards of the govt (delhi police) came and asked what I was doing and bam, a thump on the back of my neck and I was being pushed by a policemen towards a detention bus and he thrown onto its stairs.

No questions, no bodily autonomy, direct assault. Phone snatched.

Driven around for two hours and then been sitting at police station for 5 hours and counting …

No questions entertained.

Do I regret my decision? No. I am glad that some of my fear of the police got out. I have always feared them growing up. I fear them a bit less now.

I am glad to have done my bit. I hope that you will do yours when the time comes. Stay safe out there.

Bhrigu Lake (Almost DIY)

I am an avid hiker. I have done most of my multi day hiking outside India. First, in the PNW region of the US and then in Nepal. I am now settled in India.

I tried the group hiking with Indiahikes but found that its not my thing. Solitude to look inwards is a critical part of what hiking means to me. So, I have been trying to figure out a way to DIY hikes but faced many challenges due to the different Infrastructure in India compared to my prior hiking experience eg: no bear spray (to protect myself from a bear attack), no allowed use of garmin inreach (satellite comm devices are banned), scarce availability of popular freeze dry food, and many others.

I finally gathered courage to do it and with proper planning AND the safety net of a local (I hired a local to be around me, not assist me, but just being present) I was able to pull it off.

I am extremely happy today! Sharing my happiness with fellow hikers through some pictures.

Dates: 23-24 Aug (one night stay at “Bet Dhar” I believe its called. It has a small dhaba and serves as a small camping site sitting almost 900 feet below Raula Kholi)

Starting point: 14 mod, Gulaba

New life for old Doors

Hi,

I have these old doors in the apartment I am renovating. They are of teak wood and I do not want to get rid of them and want to try to up cycle them if possible in a reasonable amount.

Here are some pictures. Some of the joints have also broadened.

Please suggest some ideas to give them new life.

Sliding wardrobe material

Hi guys,

Due to some space constraints I am building a sliding wardrobe in one of the rooms.

I liked the glass design as in the image but my carpenter is saying glass is not good, go with wood.

I wanted to ask others here who have similar wardrobes for their feedback before making a decision.

Thanks!

I hope today’s events backfire

I was talking to my parents yesterday that I was sure that a sea of people will come to the march on 20th, and that the govt cannot afford to let such a crowd stand against them. They must be planning something and here we are today.

I only hope though that the events of today backfire on the govt. That more people come down on 20th to join the cause. That it be a spectacle to behold not just for the BJP, but for us as well. That it becomes a moment where we can be proud of ourselves as a nation and as citizens of India.

P.S. I just returned from Jantar Mantar. I had gone a couple of times before and was thinking to directly join on 20th but went today to show support on a dark day. The atmosphere there was electric.

How to make the best use of this space under stairs?

Basically the title.

I want to use this space as storage but need help in making it as functional as possible since access might be an issue.

Please help placing my curtains.

I have two options:

  1. Place them under the drop beam close to the sliders
  2. Place them on the false ceiling after the drop beam

In option 1: I lose the curtain height
In option 2: I lose the space under the drop beam when I close the curtains

Drop beam width is close to 21 inches.

I just can’t decide!
