People working in biotech/pharma, what is one unique aspect of your company culture that genuinely stands out compared to other pharma companies?

It could be something inspiring, innovative, employee-friendly, or surprisingly effective.

At the same time, what is the most toxic, frustrating, or unhealthy part of the culture that people outside the company probably don’t see?

Curious to hear honest experiences across startups, CDMOs, big pharma, and biotech.

Guys, I need your valuable guidance.

I have a PhD in chemical engineering with a focus on material science, colloids, slurry , suspension, rheology, interface and polymers and devices. Coming from the pharma industry with 9 years experience, I have a strong pharma clean room manufacturing discipline, tech transfer, statistical analysis, six sigma principles. Whenever I see some course videos on YouTube on semiconductor processing, I do not find anything there that I can't do the work or can't understand the technicalities. I understand the concepts told on YouTube videos very well. Of course, I will be needing hands on domain training on the shop floor.

Given this , how can I break into the semi industry? I want to be a process engineer or process integration engineer.

I have always been a good student of mathematics, physics and chemistry.

What would you recommend? How to go about it?

I wish to work in a fast paced environment.

Should I take some online courses on semiconductor processing? Will it help?

I hear that if you want to work with tsmc, the only thing you need is the ability to work hard , be willing to get grinded , and you have a strong scientific and technical background - irrespective of which branch you have studied from because tsmc will teach you everything from fundamentals.

If the above statements are true, then how people apply jobs/ roles on the basis of number of years of experience.

Some people can have 10 years of experience, some have three years or some may have just fallen out from the college straight.

What is your take on this?

I see for one of the job postings in Roche that the deadline to submit an application is just 10 calendar days, from the posted date.

Is it a signal that they already have an internal candidate and they are posting this job in public for HR compliance.

Is it worth submitting an application?
