Best pool for lazy swimming

I enjoy a slow swim in a 25m pool. I don't want to go fast or feel rushed, I find something very calming in some quiet laps. But I'm also quite unfit, so I often pause at the end of the lane.

I have a passing knowledge of all the pools around Hobart, but I find the lane timetables and uncertainty about the general "vibe" a serious barrier to getting back into casual swimming. I hate it when there's only one "slow lane" and it's really busy and not at all slow.

So, Hobartians of Reddit, can you recommend a pool and fairly reliable times to go?

I live in the Rosny area and work in the city, so my best options are probably

- Clarence (50m only?)

- Aquatic Centre (so busy?)

- Friends (limited slow lanes?)

- Collegiate (haven't been there since I was a kid, so no idea...)

Edit: I do not do morning exercise. I could theoretically work this into the middle of my day (my work has some flexible hours), or after work / evenings.

Book with powers that come from growing things...

I have a very clear memory of reading a book some years ago in which the main characters have powers that draw on the remnants of life in objects to work. I seem to remember someone using the dregs of life in poorly seasoned timber furniture, but I may be mixing my books with that.

Someone is captured and locked in a desert cell (or other desolate space), and everything they are given is utterly dead so they can't use their powers to escape. They finally dig into a crack in the wall or floor and find a tiny weed and it has enough juice for them to blast (or something) their way out.

This is such a common trope, I don't really hold much hope of anyone knowing which book I might be thinking of. But I associate it with the Obernewtyn Chronicles - I don't think it was in these books (unless as a side plot), but perhaps I read it at about the same time in the early 2000s.

Any suggestions?

Has Amazon delivery to Hobart sped up recently?

Ok, first of all, yes, Amazon, yuck. But sometimes it really is the only place to get a replacement robovac wheel or fabric shaver blades (finding the balance between 'repair not replace' with 'giving money to an evil megacorp' is very difficult in a neoliberal economy).

I have noticed recently that Amazon seems to have a lot more stuff available with overnight / two-day delivery to Hobart (I don't know about the rest of Tasmania). Have they started whipping their servants on the mainland harder, or opened a depot down here? It seems like something has changed.

Ideally, I want a 'no rush' delivery option – my winter woollies can wait a week to be depilled.
