I made a 5★Star GP 2026 Tournament Results Summary Page that I'll be updating throughout the tournament

You can open it through this link

----------

Hellooooo r/stardomjoshi

For those of you who don't know me, I've been making tournament summary pages for about 7 years now, covering tournaments like the AEW's Continental Classic, NJPW's G1 Climax, and, of course, the 5★Star GP.

This Google Doc contains several details relating to the tournament, including:

  • Block result summaries, including match results, points, win-loss records, and statuses with regards to qualifying for the finals, as well as the final playoff bracket
  • Full match schedules (where available)
  • A list of the top 20 matches based on CageMatch ratings (spoiler-free for those who just want match recommendations)
  • The finals summary

If you're worried about spoilers, don't worry. The link drops you on a landing page, so you don't get results thrown in your face.

----------

I don't plan on committing to tournament round-up posts like I do for the G1 Climax. Maybe I'll do one near the end, but no promises there.

Until then, thanks for reading! See you next time.

----------

I've also got a Ko-fi, so drop a tip if you like my work

Some Large Monster Appearance Stats (as of MH Wilds)

With all the title updates finished for Wilds, and with the Ascendance having been recently announced, I thought it'd be fun to give some "attendance" stats across the games to help people theorycraft returning large monsters.

Note that this only includes "mainline" games (no Frontier or spin-offs) and large monsters. The games I'm including are:

  • MH 1 (MH1) - Gen 1
  • MH Portable/Freedom (MHF1) - Gen 1
  • MH 2/Dos (MH2) - Gen 2
  • MH Portable/Freedom 2+Unite (MHF2/MHFU) - Gen 2
  • MH 3/Tri+Ultimate (MH3/MH3U) - Gen 3
  • MH Portable 3rd (MHP3) - Gen 3
  • MH 4+Ultimate (MH4/MH4U) - Gen 4
  • MH Generations+Ultimate (MHG/MHGU) - Gen 4
  • MH World+Iceborne (MHWo/MHWI) - Gen 5
  • MH Rise+Sunbreak (MHR/MHRS) - Gen 5
  • MH Wilds (MHWi) - Gen 6

I'm also not counting subspecies or other weird alternate versions. Just the base versions.

Longest Absences

Some large monsters haven't been included in a mainline game in a long time. Here are large monsters that have been absent for several generations.

The following large monsters haven't been seen since gen 2 (all last appeared in MHFU):

  • Hypnocatrice
  • King Shakalaka
  • Queen Vespoid
  • Shen Gaoren
  • Yama Tsukami

The following large monsters haven't been seen since gen 3 (all last appeared in MH3U):

  • Qurupeco
  • Gigginox
  • Gobul
  • Ceadeus
  • Dire Miralis

I should also note that this was the only generation these large monsters appeared in.

The list of large monsters who haven't appeared since gen 4 is pretty long because MHGU's roster size was so large. However, I will note the ones whose last appearance was MH4U:

  • Monoblos (debuted in MH1)
  • Great Jaggi (debuted in MH3)
  • Jhen Mohran (debuted in MH3)
  • Dalamadur (debuted in MH4)

Only One Appearance

Some large monsters haven't been gone as long, but have yet to appear outside of their first generation, or even their first game.

The ones from gen 2 and 3 are already listed above. However, the following large monsters have yet to make an appearance outside of gen 4:

  • Dalamadur (MH4U)
  • Najarala (MH4U/MHGU)
  • Kecha Wacha (MH4U/MHGU)
  • Seltas & Seltas Queen (MH4U/MHGU)
  • Tetsucabra (MH4U/MHGU)
  • Zamtrios (MH4U/MHGU)
  • Great Maccao (MHGU)
  • Malfestio (MHGU)
  • Gammoth (MHGU)
  • Nakarkos (MHGU)
  • Ahtal-Ka (MHGU)

Gen 5 is a bit too recent, so I don't think it's worth going all of those.

Best Attendance

It should come as no surprise that Rathian and Rathalos are the only large monsters that have appeared in every mainline game, let alone every generation.

However, it's also worth noting that Diablos has also appeared in every game (if you include the expansion with the base game), except for Wilds (so far). It almost missed MH4 and MHG, but did end up being included in MH4U and MHGU.

Here are the large monsters that have yet to miss a generation since their debut, but have yet to debut in gen 6:

  • Diablos (debuted in MH1)
  • Tigrex (debuted in MHF2)
  • Nargacuga (debuted in MHFU)
  • Barroth (debuted in MH3)
  • Barioth (debuted in MH3)
  • Uragaan (debuted in MH3)
  • Deviljho (debuted in MH3)
  • Royal Ludroth (debuted in MH3)
  • Alatreon (debuted in MH3)
  • Zinogre (debuted in MHP3)
  • Arzuros (debuted in MHP3)
  • Lagombi (debuted in MHP3)
  • Volvidon (debuted in MHP3)
  • Amatsu (debuted in MHP3)
  • Brachydios (debuted in MH3U)
  • Shagaru Magala (debuted in MH4)
  • Chaotic Gore Magala (debuted in MH4U)
  • Astalos (debuted in MHG)
  • Glavenus (debuted in MHG)
  • Valstrax (debuted in MHGU)

Also, here are the large monsters that have, as of now, only missed 1 other generation apart from this one:

  • Plesioth (debuted in MH1, missed gen 5)
  • Khezu (debuted in MH1, missed gen 3)
  • Basarios (debuted in MH1, missed gen 3)
  • Kirin (debuted in MH1, missed gen 3)
  • Fatalis (debuted in MH1, missed gen 3)
  • Yian Garuga (debuted in MHF1, missed gen 3)
  • Bulldrome (debuted in MH2, missed gen 5)
  • Akantor (debuted in MHF2, missed gen 5)
  • Ukanlos (debuted in MHFU, missed gen 5)
  • Daimyo Hermitaur (debuted in MH2, missed gen 3)
  • Shogun Ceanataur (debuted in MH2, missed gen 3)
  • Rajang (debuted in MH2, missed gen 3)
  • Teostra (debuted in MH2, missed gen 3)
  • Chameleos (debuted in MH2, missed gen 3)
  • Lavasioth (debuted in MHFU, missed gen 3)
  • Great Jaggi (debuted in MH3, missed gen 5)
  • Agnaktor (debuted in MH3, missed gen 5)
  • Jhen Mohran / Dah'ren Mohran (debuted in MH3, missed gen 5)
  • Great Baggi (debuted in MH3, missed gen 3)
  • Duramboros (debuted in MHP3, missed gen 5)
  • Nibelsnarf (debuted in MHP3, missed gen 5)
  • Great Wroggi (debuted in MHP3, missed gen 4)

The others who fit this criteria from gen 4 were already mentioned in the previous sections. Also, again, gen 5 is a bit too recent to really remark on.

Before the first Ascendance trailer, Kushala Daora would have been a part of this list, having only missed gen 3 since its debut in gen 2.

So yeah, that's the post. What large monsters do you wanna see return in Ascendance?

Best of the Super Juniors 33 A+B Block Standings & Analysis as of Jun 2 (1 A+B Block Show Left)

I've also got a Ko-fi, so drop a tip if you like my work

----------

Hello r/njpw

Welcome to my final post covering this year's BOSJ tournament, and boy, are we looking at a crazy finish to the block phase. 12 Contenders across both blocks still in, and every match on the last day will be vital in deciding who does and who does not go to the playoffs. There's a lot to discuss, so let's just dive into this mess.

----------

As usual, you may also view my BOSJ 33 results summary page here. I'm manually updating it as we go along the tournament. It contains the schedule of the matches (whenever possible), results, and a summary of the top 20 best matches of the tournament (based on CageMatch Ratings).

----------

A Block

Name Faction Score Record Status
Jun Kasai Freedoms 10 5-3 In
Master Wato Hontai 10 5-3 In
Robbie X Unbound Co. 10 5-3 In
Kosei Fujita TMDK 10 5-3 In
Nick Wayne AEW 10 5-3 In
Francesco Akira United Empire 10 5-3 In
Titan CMLL/Unbound Co. 10 5-3 In
Ryusuke Taguchi Hontai 6 3-5 Out
Valiente Jr. CMLL 4 2-6 Out
Daiki Nagai Unbound Co. 0 0-8 Out

Look at all those 10-pointers. We still have 7 contenders on the final day, with all 5 matches factoring into the playoffs. Some of the 7 are faring better than others, but there's not much separation between everyone. It can really go in many, many different ways, and any one of the 7 10-pointers can claim the top spot in A Block.

It really is gonna be a mad scramble. We could end up with as many as 5 12-pointers, and there are several ways that can happen. Going through every scenario would be too exhausting. I'm just gonna have to go through each contender and see what their best case scenario is to go to the playoffs.

----------

#1: Jun Kasai

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Master Wato, Nick Wayne, Robbie X, Kosei Fujita
  • Lost: Titan, Francesco Akira
  • Final opponent: Ryusuke Taguchi

Among everyone in A Block, I bet nobody expected Jun Kasai to be the favorite going into the last day. He's in that position because he has the best win-loss record among all the 10-pointers. Not only has he accumulated 4 wins over current 10-pointers, but his 2 losses will be facing each other, so only one of them can match his score. That means that, as long as Kasai wins, he is pretty much guaranteed to factor into the playoffs. He might be #2 behind Titan or Akira, and he may be caught in a deadlock 3-way tie, but at the very least, he's gonna be involved in whatever decision needs to be made.

#2: Master Wato

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Francesco Akira, Robbie X, Kosei Fujita
  • Lost: Titan, Jun Kasai
  • Final opponent: Nick Wayne

Like Jun Kasai, Wato only has two relevant losses heading into the final day. However, unlike Kasai, it's possible for both Titan and Kasai to get 12 points, potentially pushing Wato out of the top two, so even if Wato wins his match, he might still miss out on the playoffs.

He does have one out though if both Titan and Kasai win, however. If both Robbie X and Kosei Fujita win their respective matches, the resulting 5-way tie at 12 would give Wato enough head-to-head wins to get into a 3-way tie for #2 with Titan and Robbie X behind Jun Kasai. It's not a great outcome, but it's better than nothing.

#3: Robbie X

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Titan, Francesco Akira, Kosei Fujita
  • Lost: Master Wato, Nick Wayne, Jun Kasai
  • Final opponent: Valiente Jr.

Everyone from here on has 3 losses to current 10-pointers, increasing the risk even further. Luckily for Robbie X, two of his losses are in a match with each other, so only one of them can make 12 and potentially deny his playoffs spot.

Yeah, so the worst case scenario for Robbie X is Jun Kasai winning, since one of Wato and Wayne are likely to make 12 regardless (Robbie will be fortunate if they end up in a draw, as he'll be guaranteed the playoffs as long as he wins). If Kasai does win, Robbie also 3-way tie at #2 possibility if Fujita, and either Titan or Wayne win their matches.

#4: Kosei Fujita

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Nick Wayne, Titan, Francesco Akira
  • Lost: Master Wato, Jun Kasai, Robbie X
  • Final opponent: Daiki Nagai

Fujita and the rest will have three head-to-head losses among the 10-pointers, and so have the biggest risk. If any two of his losses make 12, he is in deep trouble. The only exception is if the two are Kasai and Robbie (with Wayne beating Wato), but that would result in a 3-way tie for #2.

#5: Nick Wayne

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Titan, Robbie X
  • Lost: Francesco Akira, Jun Kasai, Kosei Fujita
  • Final opponent: Master Wato

#6: Francesco Akira

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Nick Wayne, Jun Kasai
  • Lost: Master Wato, Robbie X, Kosei Fujita
  • Final opponent: Titan

#7: Titan

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Master Wato, Jun Kasai
  • Lost: Nick Wayne, Robbie X, Kosei Fujita
  • Final opponent: Francesco Akira

These last three have pretty much the same circumstances. 3 head-to-head losses each, all in different matches. If any two of their three prior losses win, they are done for.

Each one also has an exception, where two of their three losses win, but also two of their prior wins win. All would result in them being in a three-way tie for #2 with 5 wrestlers on 12.

For Nick Wayne, it's if Kasai, Fujita, Titan, and Robbie win

For Francesco Akira, it's if Robbie, Fujita, Wayne, and Kasai win.

For Titan, it's if Robbie, Fujita, Wato, and Kasai win.

That's the best way I can sum it all. Honestly, I think it's unlikely that we'll have 4 or 5 people finishing with 12 points. Realistically, I think it'll be 3, which would make figuring out tie-breaks way easier (as long as it's not a 3-way deadlock).

----------

B Block

Name Faction Score Record Status
Robbie Eagles TMDK 10 5-3 In
Yoh Hontai 10 5-3 In
El Desperado Hontai 10 5-3 In
Sho House of Torture 10 5-3 In
Taiji Ishimori Unbound Co. 10 5-3 In
Kushida Hontai 6 3-5 Out
Jakob Austin Young United Empire 6 3-5 Out
Yoshinobu Kanemaru House of Torture 6 3-5 Out
Hyo Dragongate 6 3-5 Out
Daisuke Sasaki DDT 6 3-5 Out

B Block is in a similar position to A Block. Everyone currently on 10 is a contender, and every match will feature one of them. The difference is that there re only 5 contenders left in B Block, making things just a bit easier.

----------

#1: Robbie Eagles

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Yoh, El Desperado, Taiji Ishimori
  • Lost: Sho
  • Final opponent: Hyo

Robbie finds himself at the top of B Block on the last day of the block phase. He's been in similar positions before, but has always stumbled just before hitting the finish line. He has the tools to get him into the playoffs. He just needs the score.

Eagles is in such a strong position that, should all the 12-pointers win or lose, he will be #1. If he wins, he's guaranteed a playoffs spot. The only way Robbie wins and doesn't take #1 is if Sho makes 12, and they're the only two that are on 12.

We'll see if Robbie Robbie Robbie can finally break his BOSJ curse.

#2: Yoh

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: El Desperado, Taiji Ishimori, Sho
  • Lost: Robbie Eagles
  • Final opponent: Daisuke Sasaki

With his win over Despe, Yoh is in prime position to get back to the finals spot he lost in last year. His only loss of substance is to Robbie Eagles, so, like Eagles, if he wins, he's in the playoffs, and if all the 10-pointers lose, he's still in the playoffs. He's much more likely to take 2nd if Robbie wins as well, but regardless if it's at #1 or #2, Yoh has a clear shot for another attempt at glory.

#3: El Desperado

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Taiji Ishimori, Sho
  • Lost: Robbie Eagles, Yoh
  • Final opponent: Yoshinobu Kanemaru

Losses to Eagles and Yoh have dimmed Despe's chances significantly. Just yesterday, he was the dominant block leader, but now, he needs some luck just to qualify for a playoffs spot. He's the first among the contenders to not have a guaranteed playoffs spot on a win, and that happens if both Eagles and Yoh win their matches. It's a bit tight, but it could be worse.

#4: Sho

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Robbie Eagles
  • Lost: Yoh, El Desperado, Taiji Ishimori
  • Final opponent: Jakob Austin Young

Sho hangs onto his playoffs hopes with a win over Daisuke Sasaki. However, with losses to over half the remaining contenders, he's in a bit of a struggle. His main way of getting into the playoffs is if only two people make 12 points, including himself. Three or ore would result in either a deadlock 3-way tie, or getting pushed out of the top 2 entirely.

#5: Taiji Ishimori

Relevant Match-ups:

  • Won: Sho
  • Lost: Robbie Eagles, Yoh, El Desperado
  • Final opponent: Kushida

Ishimori is in pretty much the exact same position as Sho. The only difference is that Sho has better deadlock ties, thanks to his win over Eagles. Otherwise it's the same story: Ishimori is just hoping that very few people end on 12.

----------

That's B Block. It's very similar to A Block, just cleaner.

----------

That's all for my coverage of this year's BOSJ. With all 10 matches being critical to the final playoffs picture, it's sure to be a long and eventful night. I hope everything I laid out makes sense, and I hope it helps you all make sense of this last day.

Next time you'll see me, I'll be posting my mid-year round-ups for NJPW leading into Dominion. I'd love to go into it more, but it's very late here, and I'm tired.

Until then, thanks for reading! See you next time.

I made a BOSJ 33 Tournament Results Summary Page that I'll be updating throughout the tournament

You can open it through this link

Hellooooo r/njpw

On the eve of this year's tournament, I share with you my annual BOSJ tournament tracker.

----------

For those of you who don't know me, I've been making tournament summary pages for about 6 years now, covering tournaments like the G1 Climax, World Tag League, AEW's Continental Classic, and, of course, the BOSJ.

This Google Doc contains several details relating to the tournament, including:

  • Block result summaries, including match results, points, win-loss records, and statuses with regards to qualifying for the finals, as well as the final playoff bracket
  • Full match schedules (where available)
  • A list of the top 20 matches based on CageMatch ratings (spoiler-free for those that just want match recommendations)
  • The finals summary

If you're worried about spoilers, don't worry. The link drops you on a landing page, so you don't get results thrown in your face.

----------

For those of you looking forward to my tournament write-ups, I have some news regarding that. I'll be away on vacation for the last week of May, and I'll be unable to cover some of the last days of the tournament. However, I should be able to release a last-2-days post on June 1 (maybe May 31 at a push), and a final day summary after the show on the 2nd, so that's what you can expect for this year's coverage

Lastly, I'll be releasing my usual semi-annual New Japan round-up posts between the BOSJ finals and Dominion. Please look forward to that.

I've also got a Ko-fi, so drop a tip if you like my work

Enjoy!
