Range Report: Limited Run CNC Gunworks Akira 5.0 Island; New Naga Island to Follow in Greater Quantities

I enjoy shooting a variety of pistols, but the 2011 has become my primary focus in recent years.  I managed to secure one of the 25 in the limited run CNC Gunworks Akira 5.0 Island, and these are being distributed between now and the 1^(st) of June as the result of a collaboration between CNC Gunworks and Not Just Guns.

In a snapshot, this CNC-manufactured 2011 with hand-fit components is masterfully designed, accurate, fast, and beautifully balanced. Some of the key components include:

·        KKM Precision 5.0” Island Tri-Ported Barrel in Rose Gold (hand lapped by pushing a lead slug covered in very mild abrasive back and forth through a barrel)

·        Atlas Gunworks Trigger (my trigger breaks at under 1 pound)

·        Atlas Gunwork RMR/SRO Optic Plate

·        Atlas Gunworks Toolless Guide Rod with a 7-9 lb. Recoil Spring

·        Atlas Gunworks Pin Stop

·        Atlas Gunworks Barrel Link

·        Atlas Gunworks Reverse Plug

·        Atlas Gunworks Magazines (2)

·        19lb Main Spring (Not sure if it is AGW)

·        Satin DLC Finish with Rose Gold Components and Accents

·        Aluminum Grip with Medium Aggressive Texture

·        Tactical Magwell and Rail

·        IDPA Ambi-safety

I picked the hottest and least ideal day of the year so far with temperatures in the 90s F to test fire the Akira 5.0 Island.  I brought 100 rounds of PMC 124gr. FMJ and 200 rounds of Sellier & Bellot 124gr. FMJ to test fire, and both the ammo and pistol were in full sun for hours.

The gun as tested was set up with a Trijicon SRO and a Surefire x-300 Ultra B.  Upon receipt, I field stripped the pistol and lubricated the parts with Gun Butter.  I noticed during the disassembly and assembly process that the recoil spring used with the AGW toolless guide rod was on the strong side, so I am assuming it is a 9-pound spring.

The range exercise was outstanding.  After the first few shots, it felt comfortable in hand and as if I had been shooting this 2011 for years. Muzzle flip is negligible, and the recoil feels like a slight linear pulse.  The process of zeroing the pistol was quick, and after it was done to my liking, I moved to a metal silhouette to see how this work of art would perform in the heat.

The Akira 5.0 Island ran like a sewing machine. The 300 rounds of PMC and Sellier & Bellot 124 gr. FMJ shot perfectly without any issues—not one burp.  Ping after ping, the pistol proved to be quick, accurate, and RELIABLE.  Reliability is top of the list for any pistoI that I purchase.  I did not experience any thermal drift or failures to feed during the 2 hours of shooting at 15-20 yards despite the excessive heat.

Based on my experience shooting the Akira 4.6 and 5.0, they are both outstanding guns.  Is the Akira 5.0 Island noticeably better?  Yes.  The 5.0 Island provided me with an overall better shooting experience as it is softer shooting with less pronounced slide velocity, faster, and has less muzzle rise and a longer sight radius to improve accuracy and control.

Conclusion:  I shoot many of the finest 2011s.  Rather than doing the brand name-dropping game, I will say CNC Gunworks “nailed it” with the Akira 5.0 Island.  Their manufacturing process is all about precision, and the gun’s design is nearly as perfect as a pistol can get. Range performance is over the top.  Some reviewers have stated that they would like to have a slightly tighter ambi-safety.  My position is that a safety should be easy to engage and require slightly more force to release, so for me the safety as adjusted does the job for me.  Admittedly, I rarely use a safety at the range, and when I shoot the thumb on my dominant hand rides it.

What’s Next from CNC Gunworks?  While you can no longer purchase the Akira 5.0 Island, which was exclusively limited to 25, I was recently told by CNC Gunworks that they will be launching their “Naga” Island within the next 2-3 weeks.  This will not be a limited-production pistol, so there will be more of them to address current demand.  If I had more details, I would share them with you.

Judging from my experience with CNC Gunworks, I am expecting the Naga to be another outstanding and innovatively designed 2011.

PA Primary Alert: Senate and House RINOS with Anti-gun Records in Districts 20, 117, 36, 88 and 100

PA Guns,

It's not just the "Democrats" seeking to suppress and take away our rights as PA gun owners.

Spanberger just signed the AR-15 ban in Virginia. The NRA has filed a lawsuit, and Harmeet Dhillon from the DOJ will soon follow with another lawsuit. Do we want to get to this point in PA?

Chris Dorr sent this communication along. If you are in these districts, look for additional communications from PFA, and get out and vote on May 19th!

From Chris:

The May 19 Republican Primary is almost here.

And Pennsylvania Firearms Association is already spending money to make sure gun owners know exactly who they’re voting for before they walk into the polling place.

Because let’s be honest...

Some of the biggest threats to the Second Amendment in Pennsylvania are not Democrats.

They’re weak Republicans who campaign like conservatives back home, then fold under pressure in Harrisburg.

That’s why PFA is hammering key Republican Primary races RIGHT NOW with digital ads and direct mail exposing anti-gun records and forcing candidates to answer hard questions before they get elected.

In Senate District 20, we’re exposing Lisa Baker’s anti-gun record to Republican voters before Election Day.

In House District 117, we’re exposing F-rated Bill Jones who’s running against A+ rated Jamie Walsh.

In Senate District 36A+ rated Tom Jones voted HELL NO on every single Democrat gun-control bill in the House and signed the PFA survey while Jere Swarr refused to answer it.

And in House Districts 88 and 100, we’re making sure gun owners know exactly which candidates signed the survey 100% pro-gun... and which ones refused.

That’s pretty dang important because when a candidate refuses to answer the PFA survey, gun owners know why.

The political establishment wants quiet primaries.

They want Republican voters kept in the dark until AFTER the election.

PFA is making sure that does NOT happen.

But this takes money, and Election Day is closing in fast.

Every ad costs money.

Every mail piece costs money.

Every voter we reach costs money.

So I need your help right now to mobilize a massive gun-vote turnout and keep this program running full blast through May 19.

Please contribute $100, $50, $25, or whatever you can afford immediately to help PFA expose anti-gun Republicans and fight for real pro-gun leadership in Harrisburg.

PA Primary Gun Owners Alert for Potential Civil Liability Insurance Requirement: Sponsors of Pennsylvania SB 209 (2025–2026 Regular Session)

PA Guns,

As if we do not have enough anti-2A/gun legislation being pushed in Harrisburg, this is the latest ACTIVE attempt to impose financial constraints on gun ownership in PA.

Chris Dorr sent this along, and again you are encouraged to let them know that you should not be required to carry civil liability insurance at $660 per year for $1,000,000 in coverage. If this were to pass, you will not be able to keep your guns without a documented civil liability insurance policy. You can also expect the insurance ceiling to likely rise every year to further suppress your 2A ownership rights.

This is the list of FAMILIAR sponsors for anti-gun legislation.

Anti-2A/Gun Ownership Sponsors:

  • Sen. Amanda Cappelletti (D, District 17) – Prime sponsor PA Legislature
  • Sen. Timothy Kearney (D, District 26)
  • Sen. Arthur Haywood (D, District 4)
  • Sen. Carolyn Comitta (D, District 19)
  • Sen. Nikil Saval (D, District 1)
  • Sen. Jay Costa (D, District 43)
  • Sen. Christine Tartaglione (D, District 2)
  • Sen. John Kane (D, District 9)
  • Sen. Katie Muth (D, District 44)

Message from Chris at the Pennsylvania Firearms Association

A few months ago, I warned you that gun-grabbing politicians in Harrisburg were working on a dangerous new scheme to make gun ownership more expensive for ordinary Pennsylvanians.

I told you they wanted to force gun owners to purchase civil liability insurance just to exercise their constitutional rights. And I told you this was not about safety, crime, or holding violent criminals accountable.

It was about control.

Well, now here it is.

Senate Bill 209 has been introduced in Harrisburg, and it would require firearm owners to carry liability insurance.

In other words, the gun-control lobby’s newest strategy is no longer just some theory floating around in the background. It is now an actual bill sitting in the Pennsylvania Senate.

SB 209 was introduced by Senator Amanda Cappelletti, and the goal is exactly what we warned about: forcing firearm owners to carry liability insurance for their weapons.

Let me put that in plain English.

They want to make you pay a government-approved financial penalty before you can exercise a right that is protected by both the Second Amendment and Article I, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution.

This is gun control through financial pressure.

Not by banning every gun overnight. Not by showing up at your door tomorrow morning. But by slowly turning your rights into something only the wealthy, well-connected, and government-approved can afford.

Because once the politicians can force you to buy insurance before owning or carrying a firearm, what stops them from raising the requirements later? What stops them from increasing the coverage amounts? What stops them from adding more conditions? What stops insurance companies from denying coverage, canceling policies, or pricing ordinary gun owners out of the market entirely?

That is the trap. The anti-gun Left knows they cannot repeal the Second Amendment outright, so they are trying to make exercising your rights more expensive, more complicated, and more dependent on bureaucrats, regulators, and insurance companies.

And if SB 209 becomes law, ordinary gun owners will be the ones punished.

Not violent criminals. Not repeat offenders. Not the people actually making Pennsylvania less safe.

Law-abiding gun owners.

Single moms who want protection. Seniors who keep a firearm in the home. Young adults trying to defend themselves. Working-class families who already struggle with the cost of groceries, gas, utilities, and everything else.

That is who gets hurt by this.

And that is why Pennsylvania Firearms Association is sounding the alarm again.

We warned you this was coming.

Now it has a bill number: SB 209.

Please sign your petition immediately telling your State Senator to oppose this gun owner insurance mandate.

SIGN YOUR PETITION NOW

Gun ownership is not a luxury for rich people.

Self-defense is not a privilege for people who can afford another monthly bill.

And your constitutional rights should not depend on whether Harrisburg and some insurance company decide you can pay enough money to exercise them.

This is the kind of bill that can sit quietly in committee until the political conditions change. And if Democrats take full control in Harrisburg after the next election, do not think for one second they will forget about bills like SB 209.

They will come back to them. They will move them. And they will tell gun owners it is just “common sense.”

That is why we have to build opposition now.

Please sign your petition right away and tell your State Senator to oppose SB 209.

Contact your Senator today and ask them to move SB 357 ahead!

We are entitled to our constitutional rights!

I received this Message from Chris Dorr PA Firearms Association:
Pennsylvania gun owners should not have to beg the government for permission to carry a firearm for self-defense.

That should not be a controversial statement.

If you are a law-abiding citizen, and you can legally own a firearm, you should not be treated like a criminal just because you decide to carry that firearm concealed to protect yourself and your family.

But right now in Pennsylvania, politicians still force gun owners through a permission-slip system before they can fully exercise their right to bear arms.

That is why Pennsylvania Firearms Association is urging gun owners to contact their State Senators in support of SB 357, Constitutional Carry.

SB 357 is simple:

No permit. No permission slip. No begging the Government to exercise your rights.

This bill would allow law-abiding Pennsylvanians to carry concealed without first obtaining a License to Carry Firearms.

And for gun owners who still want a License to Carry Firearms for reciprocity with other states, SB 357 keeps that option available.

That is exactly how it should work.

Your right to defend yourself does not come from a sheriff. It does not come from a bureaucrat. It does not come from a politician in Harrisburg.

It comes from God, and it is protected by the Second Amendment and Article I, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution.

But rights do not defend themselves.

If gun owners sit back while SB 357 sits in Harrisburg, the political class will be perfectly happy to let it die there.

That is why I need you to use the link below to send your State Senator a pre-written email urging them to support and vote YES on SB 357.

EMAIL YOUR SENATOR NOW

We have seen this before.

Good pro-gun bills get introduced. Politicians claim they support the Second Amendment. Then the bill gets buried, delayed, ignored, or quietly killed because not enough gun owners are raising Cain back home.

That cannot happen with SB 357.

Pennsylvania gun owners have waited long enough for Constitutional Carry.

More than half the country has already moved in this direction, and there is no excuse for Pennsylvania to keep forcing law-abiding citizens to ask permission before carrying concealed for self-defense.

This is not complicated. Criminals do not care about carry permits. Only law-abiding gun owners are burdened by the current system.

SB 357 would put Pennsylvania on the side of law-abiding gun owners, not the bureaucrats who think your rights should depend on a government-issued permission slip.

Please send your State Senator a message right now urging them to support and vote YES on SB 357.

TELL YOUR SENATOR: YES ON SB 357

And after you send your message, please forward this email to every Pennsylvania gun owner you know.

The politicians in Harrisburg need to hear from gun owners loudly, clearly, and repeatedly.

For Freedom,

Chris Dorr
Pennsylvania Firearms Association

P.S. SB 357 is Constitutional Carry. If you can legally own a firearm, you should not need a government permission slip to carry concealed for self-defense. Please use the link now to email your State Senator and urge them to support and vote YES on SB 357.

Gun owners across Pennsylvania must turn out in number for the May 19 Primary election to get the anti-2nd Amendment politicians promoting SB200* (and numerous other anti-gun laws) in PA off the Mid-term election ballot.  And yes, most of them are “Democrats.”  Still, you will need to be aware of the RINOs in your respective districts who are anti-2^(nd) Amendment and supporting SB200 to ban the AR-15 and semi-automatic handguns.

I have provided details in this link to assist you in your voting.

These are critical dates to know:

May 4, 2026 is deadline to register to vote. To register for the first time, update your registration, or confirm your registration, click here.

May 12, 2026 is the deadline to request a mail-in or absentee ballot. To request a ballot, click here.

Polls open at 7 a.m. on May 19 and will remain open until 8 p.m.

Completed mail-in or absentee ballots must be received by your county election board by 8 p.m. on Primary Day, May 19.

Please send this to every gun owner you know in PA.  We need to have an unprecedented turnout to get this done!

*In brief, there is Bill SB200 being pushed by the Democrats in the PA Senate which, if passed, would ban AR-15s and semi-automatic handguns.  Existing owners would be “grandfathered” but would need to pay for and secure a Certificate of Possession for each of their guns.  If this were to be defeated, there is still HB2126 which, if passed, would require you to apply for government permission to purchase a firearm by submitting an application to your sheriff, undergoing PA State Police investigation, and paying a licensing fee, completing training, and waiting for government approval.

Despite the complacent position some PA gunowners maintain with regard to gun control law, PA’s primary and mid-term elections will determine the future of your 2A Rights and gun ownership in PA.

The margin in the PA Senate is thin enough that IT WILL TAKE ONLY 2 REPUBLICAN DEFECTIONS to move the PA SB200* gun ban forward. Shapiro is sure to sign it into legislation, if he and his cronies are reelected.

Michael Bloomberg and George Soros contributed nearly $8 million to Josh Shapiro's reelection campaign. Out of state billionaires are doing the same to finance the gun control movement.

A November Democrat mid-term victory in Harrisburg -- Governor, House, and Senate – means every gun bill which has been voted down for the last four years gets passed.

Why am I sending this communication? The critical Senate seats the Democrats need to flip to take the chamber are sitting right in the middle of heavy gun country. Lancaster County. The Lehigh Valley. Blue-collar Pittsburgh suburbs.

All of these areas have large segments of 2A supporters. It is critical that everyone in these areas gets out to vote in the primary and mid-term elections.  This is the only way to defeat the anti-gun supporters in Harrisburg.

SD-36 in Lancaster County is believed to be the most important race in Pennsylvania this year.  According to the Pennsylvania Firearms Association, Tom Jones is working to take that seat back that the Democrats won last year in a special election, which Democrats have the advantage in. Gun owners in Lancaster County have the needed election numbers to take this district back.

TAKE ACTION NOW:  The NRA has created a webpage that enables you to determine who in your specific District is pro 2A.  You can then print out your VOTING REFERENCE CARD.  Simply select State Senate and then State House, look for your District, and see the 2A scores for all individuals.  If your District’s candidates all have a “question mark” in the 2A grade column, you will need to dig for their positions on 2A.  I wish that I could make this easier for you, but we need to prepare for the May 19^(th) primary now.

NRA-PVF | Grades | Pennsylvania

Do not select any of these known, anti-2A PA politicians:

·        TIM BRIGGS—Anti-2A House Committee Chair

·        Joe Hogan

·        K.C. Tomlinson

·        Martina White

·        Craig Williams gun wo

The requested action is simple:  get out and vote this May and November!  Don’t let PA gun owners presume a gun ban will never happen in this state.  All you need to do is look at what Spanberger has perpetrated in a few months to turn Virginia’s gun owners upside down.

Pass this along to every PA gun owner you know. Our 2A rights are only as strong as our determination to defeat unconstitutional gun laws. Get out the vote in May and November!
