I tracked 1,864 Gumroad products created in June. Here's what actually sold and what you'll never see.

i track gumroad product pages and re-check them over time. pulled every product with a creation date in june, 1,864 of them, and looked at where they landed as of aug 15.

1,431 of them, 77%, have never shown a sales counter. not once, on any check i've made. and on the 433 that do show one, the lowest number i've ever recorded in this cohort is 1. never a zero.

so read the rest knowing it's the 23% that showed anything at all. the other 1,431 are in none of the numbers below. every "i made $X in 30 days" post you've read is drawn from the same visible slice, which is why the floor always looks so high.

143 of the 433 are free. median counter 48, against 8 for paid. free pulls about 6x the volume, which is fine, it's just a different thing. 400 downloads is a mailing list. 400 sales is a business. don't rank them together.

that leaves 290 paid products i can actually measure. median price $11, median gross $135 since creation. a quarter are under $28 total. 46% are under $100. 19% cleared $1,000, 8 cleared $10,000, top one at $45,537. the top 10% took 75% of the revenue in the cohort. and this is already the winners' bracket.

price is the one thing that separates them and it's not subtle. the $1,000+ group sits at a $30 median price. the under-$100 group sits at $6.83. cheap did not make it up in volume. it never does.

honest question to close. if you had this data sitting in front of you, what would you actually want to know? i mean the specific thing you'd type, not the category.
