Extra Motivation Against the Pac-12..."Bottom Feeders" Comment

During her interview with Canzano, Teresa Gould said the follwoing:

"It doesn't make any sense for us to be at nine, 10, 11 or 12 (members), if nine, 10, 11, and 12 water us down... When I say 'water us down,' I mean drag down our strength of schedule, drag down our financial resources, water down our brand and our relevance nationally. We just have to be really careful, and I think when you look at the growth of some of these conferences in realignment across the country, there's a bunch of conferences that have a set of bottom feeders at the bottom that are weighing everyone else down."

  1. Wouldn't most of the schools in the Pac-12 be considered bottom feeders in a P4 conference?
  2. If I were the coach of a school that the Pac-12 did not invite, like UNM, SJSU, Wyoming, or a school in another conference that may be struggling, and our team was going to play a Pac-12 team, I would plaster her quote all over the locker room and let the student body know so they can show up in droves to the game. Can you imagine the news if a "bottom feeder" from another conference beats a Pac-12 team?
  3. What if at some point, the Pac-12 gets desperate for an expansion team, and the only teams left available are "bottom feeders."
  4. This isn't something a commissioner should say about other schools.

Boise State and Fresno State Share Something in Common

Both received an end-of-season number 1 vote for national champion.

1985 Fresno State finished as the only undefeated team in Division I-A. Barry Switzer, head coach of Oklahoma, gave Fresno State their only #1 vote in the UPI Coaches Poll.

2006 Boise State finished undefeated and topped it off with upsetting Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. They received one vote for #1 in the AP Poll.

Fresno State lands 6-foot-6 Templeton QB Colter Tannehill

It looks like Fresno State convinced this kid to choose them over UNLV. I wonder how much being in the new Pac-12 factored into that decision.

https://247sports.com/college/fresno-state/article/fresno-state-colter-tannehill-commit-quarterback-lands-6-foot-6-templeton-high-school-qb-bulldogs-football-recruiting-288040628/

>The Fresno State Bulldogs have landed their quarterback for the 2027 recruiting cycle. Templeton (Calif.) High School 6-foot-6 QB Colter Tannehill announced his commitment to the Bulldogs Sunday evening.

>Tannehill chose the Bulldogs over offers from UNLV and Northern Arizona. Both Fresno State and UNLV offered him over a two-day stretch from June 14 to June 15. He then officially visited both schools in the ensuing week, and reached a decision for the 'Dogs one week later.

>Tannehill had taken multiple unofficial visits to Fresno State including a stop during spring camp and competing in the Bulldogs' Battle of the Valley 7v7 Tournament earlier this month.

>Tannehill said of Fresno State, "I love it. I love (offensive coordinator Josh) Davis. I think they are building something special over there. I was over there last year in their first year and you can tell there's definitely been a change in how they go about things, and their competitive spirit. I'm very high on them. I love all the coaching staff over there."

>The Central Coast QB is among the tallest scholarship quarterbacks to commit to Fresno State, standing at 6-foot-6 and 235 lbs. As a junior at Templeton High School, Tannehill completed 107-of-183 passes for 2,001 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions, according to MaxPreps.com. He also ran 42 times for 125 yards and 6 touchdowns. He led his team to a 12-1 record, falling only to Immanuel in the CIF Central Section Division IV championship game.

>Tannehill said of his game, "I definitely think my throwing ability is the exclamation point in my game. I feel I can read defenses really well. I feel like I can be on time with my passes and be accurate with the ball downfield. I think I can maneuver the pocket well for someone of my size. I think I can move well."

>Tannehill's senior season of high school will kick off on Aug. 21 as Templeton opens the season at Caruthers High School, roughly 25 miles away from Valley Children's Stadium.

>Fresno State now has 21 commitments in the 2027 class, with Tannehill checking the box at quarterback. All five of the Bulldogs' current quarterbacks have eligibility into 2027.

Mark your calendars boys! In just over eleven weeks, the first sporting event to have a new-look Pac-12 participant will be Boise State's women's soccer team hosting CSUN.

How Much Has Been Withheld From Each Departing School?

Part of the settlement will probably be that the MWC can keep most or all of what they withheld from the departing schools. Yet, how much has been withheld, and is it equitable to each of the schools? I read somewhere that the total was 65 million. How much was withheld from each school to come up with that amount? I am sure Boise State contributed the highest amount. What if the exit fees are settled at 11 million per school, but Boise State had more than that withheld, and other schools had less? How do you think this will be resolved?

We are past the deadline for adding schools for 2027 without those schools being penalized

The SunBelt requires 24 months of notice, the MWC requires a full-year cycle, the AAC 27 months, and CUSA 14 months. If any CUSA schools wanted to exit without additional exit penalties, they would have to have given notice by May 1, 2026. This most likely means, unless some major shakeup happens, 2027 (and most likely 2028), the Pac-12 will have the same lineup as 2026.
