I was making deliveries in central MA area and spotted these guys on the side of the road in a field! They’re Sandhill Cranes! A species that until recently was extirpated from Massachusetts. I actually was a wildlife biologist and zookeeper for ~10 years and these are the first species I ever got to work with back in my first internship. Anyways, brought an enormous smile to my face and thought I would share!

Not the best photo but I can’t post videos on here! This is a mated pair and their two chicks, so a breeding population is established in MA! However so small! The chicks are the two that are brownish.

Yet the cover art for the book depicts them with four legs.
