Plant closing

Hey gang,
I was wondering if any fellow operators have been employed by a small municipal authority when it was bought out or closed down. I’ve recently taken on the role of assistant shop steward and I was ready to kick to door down to get our wages up. It turns out the plant is basically broke and at this point essential pumps are just not getting replaced, raises aren’t coming. It’s been a running joke since I got here over 4 years ago that we were going to be bought out and turned into a pump station, now I’m seeing actual concern from the execs. Anyway have you been down this road before? What did it look like for your plant as it was winding down? I’m focused on my career regardless but I’m curious as to what a dying plant looks like day to day.

Lady of shalott

Planted this girl last spring, my first bare root DA rose. It only managed two blooms last year but they were so stunning I purchased 6 more assorted DA roses! She’s doing great in spite of the heat, drought, and torrential downpours we’re having here in NJ. I need to finish staining the fence I built and I’ll build her a trellis, I think.

My first fence build

Hi gang. I started off a month ago with a plan to replace a few rotted rails that quickly spiraled into replacing the entire 320 feet of fence. The existing fence was in much worse shape than I thought even though it was still standing, and what I replaced looked so much better I just had to keep going. I have no carpentry skills or experience fence building. My only real plan was to bring the entire top of the fence level, which became an absolute fight once I turned the corner and had to trench down a foot through tree roots that pushed the entire front fence line up a foot higher. I’ve just reached the halfway point, I’ve been out here for a month a few hours each day before work chipping away. My mistakes are staring me back in the face but I’m okay with that as I’ve learned a bunch. I reused any post that felt sturdy, some were still warped so I’ll be going back when I’m done to tackle those. Any encouragement is appreciated as I’m getting over the hump and the summer heat is cooking! Thank you!!
