Process/ requirements - family/friend placement?

My son’s best friend, and his friend’s younger sibling, got removed from their mom’s house last night. Aged 17.5, and I think the younger one is 15.5 or 16. This is the second time in the past six months that they were removed, first time they went to older siblings (there are six siblings altogether, quite close in age, and the other four are young adults.)

This time they went to a foster home but my son’s friend asked the DSS if he could stay with us. He’s over at our place all the time anyway. Supposedly they’re encouraging about this idea and going to call me at some point.

So I have a bunch of questions.

Will they just let him come here even though we’re not in the foster care system? What does that entail? I assume a background check and a home visit, but what do they look for? What are the general requirements, at this age level? We don’t have bed space or even floor space to take the younger boy, unfortunately—will they prioritize keeping them together?

What kind of time frame would this take place over? (The call from social services, and everything after that.)

tl;dr: after taking 10 weeks to get to W7S3, I accidentally stopped running for a week. Got back out there today and had the best session yet. If you stop, start again and keep going!

I started c25k in February. Starting point: 45F, no exercise besides walking. Never ran before, never athletic. I repeated any session I couldn’t complete until I could, so for example I’d done W7S1 (25 min run) four times. Was very consistently going out 3 mornings a week until last week, when life caught up with me and I ended up skipping Friday… then not making it up Saturday or Sunday. Then Monday I didn’t go because (various life reasons, and/or excuses depending on your generosity).

So this morning my mindset was something like, it’s week a week. I have to either get back out there or I’m going to never go again… and Ive told too many people about it, and my bestie convinced me to do a 4mile with her in October and I’d rather not have to walk it… plus all the reasons I had for starting in the first place. So I got back out there. I was thinking I might go back a week in the program and redo week 6 but decided to stick where I’d left off and try W7S3 again. I hadn’t completed it on my attempt last week. And I finished it! I could not feel ANY effect from having sat on my rear for a week. It was actually my best session yet because in addition to finishing the run segment, I did a little sprint during the cool down, partly to make up for three mini-stops (to cross a road, to climb a flight of steps, and to take a photo of some peonies) and partly because I was feeling really good and suddenly wanted to go fast.

All this to say. If you have to stop for some reason, or for no real reason, Judy get back out there. I’m not saying, “take a week off and you’ll have your best session yet!”, only that it might not be as bad as you’re anticipating to start again.

I’ve added the photo I stopped to take this morning, because spring is glorious and peonies are fleeting.
