How to find a mature age apprenticeship in plumbing

G'day gents. I'm an overseas qualified cabinet maker, worked in Australia since I came in 2 different aspects. One being cabinetry for about 2 years and 2 years for commercial carpentry projects mainly on installing handrails and balustrades. I've got WWCC, Forklift, Working Safely at Heights, Confined Space Entry, EWP under 11m, a manual ute, all the toolset required for the cabinetry and great work ethic/punctuality. I've also got a TA experience for a Fire Sprinkler Fitter field for about 8 months in a tunnel environment doing all sorts of TA work.

What should I do? To be frank, I only care about getting a trade qualification here in Australia. I've chosen plumbing as it's a recession proof occupation. Should I do pre app? Should I rely on the contacts of the instructors at Tafe if I perform the best? How would I eliminate the fact that I have to be paid higher as I'm a mature age candidate?

Mature Age (34) Apprenticeship in WA

Hi everyone!

It's Matt, an overseas qualified cabinet maker, worked in the field of cabinetry for about 2 years, and 2 years in commercial carpentry (in various companies through agency), mostly installing handrails and balustrades as a TA and about 6 months as a TA for a Fire Sprinkler in Sydney, building pipeline modules for the tunnel project called "NorthConnex" in Australia. I've been basically working in construction since I arrived in Australia.

Currently working as a shopfitter.

I've got

\* WWCC (Employee)

\* First Aid and CPR

\* Working Safely at Heights

\* Confined Space

\* EWP over 11m

\* Full toolset for the cabinetry and commercial carpentry works

\* Full VIC Driving Licence

\* A reliable ute

I'd like your brutal honesty in terms of the things I should acquire as in tickets and education (Certificate II in Plumbing) as I've just started tailoring my resume and my cover letter to be able to find an apprenticeship in Fire Protection: Fire Sprinkler area of plumbing. I'm very sceptical about my age and like to know your valuable advices on securing an apprenticeship.

Regards,

Matt

0433 446 378

I've been also studying the basics of plumbing when I have time after work and on the weekends to expose myself to the field as much as I can and saving up money for both the apprenticeship period and the necessary tools and equipment.
