Can I turn my off mains water while on holidays without any issues with hot water tank?
It’s an Electric hot water tank so I assume there won’t be any issues.
Anything I’m missing?

Hi all,
How easy is it to cap this pipe from the source side where the red arrow is?
The bottom part is a defunct irrigation system (not needed), and the left side needs to be removed entirely (garden tap).
I'm not sure what size the end point is, or what cover It would need to be capped. Would love some advice please.
OR, is this something that must be done by a plumber? If so let me know and I'll take that route instead.
Thanks.
We are starting to get more enquiries from tech savvy clients wanting shut off valves and smart flow sensors installed on their main water lines. On paper, they seem like a great idea for preventing major internal flooding, but I wonder how reliable the motorized valves actually are after sitting idle in an Australian garage for five years
G'day gents. I'm an overseas qualified cabinet maker, worked in Australia since I came in 2 different aspects. One being cabinetry for about 2 years and 2 years for commercial carpentry projects mainly on installing handrails and balustrades. I've got WWCC, Forklift, Working Safely at Heights, Confined Space Entry, EWP under 11m, a manual ute, all the toolset required for the cabinetry and great work ethic/punctuality. I've also got a TA experience for a Fire Sprinkler Fitter field for about 8 months in a tunnel environment doing all sorts of TA work.
What should I do? To be frank, I only care about getting a trade qualification here in Australia. I've chosen plumbing as it's a recession proof occupation. Should I do pre app? Should I rely on the contacts of the instructors at Tafe if I perform the best? How would I eliminate the fact that I have to be paid higher as I'm a mature age candidate?
My house has gal water supply pipes from the meter which converts to aix of of copper and plas under the house.
Should I be digging this out to get replaced with blue line main, any benifits in doing so.
Looking for a plumber in SA to have a chat with.
Every tradie seems to have at least one story that still makes them laugh. What's yours?
Tried pushing it down to encourage it to pop up, turning it anti clock wise but no luck :( thinking of mechanical forcing it to open by prying it but i fear I might damage the tub. Any thoughts?
Is it possible to replace this with the rain shower head without any modifications?
If possible, please advise with links to purchase. Thanks
Our ancient (nearly 70 years old) stove has a very slow leak on one of the knobs. So slow you can barely smell it at the jet, and can't smell it in the room unless the house is shut up for several days.
Plumber told us he can't disconnect it because all the gas pipes are “the old type”. He said if he does any work on it, he has to replace all the pipes. House will be demolished at the end of the year, so don't want to do that.
So the choice is either all new pipes, or turn it all off at the meter. Is this correct? Not allowed to disconnect a stove without replacing the gas pipes first? I know electricians won't do work on houses with old wiring. Is this the same?
Edit: I’ve added photos of the stove and the meter. To clarify, gas is leaking out of one burner even when it’s turned off. The ideal solution would be if we could disable that burner. Then we could still use the other three.
Saw a post on here about how quickly the finish wears out and the cartridges need replacing constantly. Renovating soon and was leaning toward matte black everywhere but now second guessing it. Is chrome just the smarter long term call or is it about which brand you go with?
Maybe I'm being thick, but is the red part litres or more than that?
I bought a propety while ago and just realised that the recycle taps around the property and the toilet flush is not using recycled water as its supposed to. I checked the front meter and it seems its not connected? I could be wrong on this as I have no idea what I am looking at. Anyone here got some ideas?
Hi, I had a 15mm water meter in Adelaide and when it broke they gave me a 20mm water meter and my house immediately got water hammer. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I want SA Water to replace the water meter again with a 15mm water meter but they say they have none. Is this true?
Friend had a new hot water heater installed 4 years ago, from a licensed plumber, should the repair be free? Tank is not leaking but no hot water. (Electric, normal looking heater outside the house)
So far they can't find their warranty paperwork yet.
When they call the plumber (same one who installed it 4 years ago), what should they say?
Is it customary to expect that it should be free due to some kind of warrantee by the plumber themselves or by the manufacturer? The unit is not leaking.
What normally happens in these situations? They paid around $2000.
About to get some work done and realised I have no idea what questions to even ask upfront. Things like whether the quote is fixed or could blow out, what brand of fittings they use, that kind of thing.
So after seeing a magic of Bidet in Japan, I bought an electric bidet seat from Bunnings for $400 and thought another $600 should be enough for plumbing and adding a PowerPoint.
Plumber came in and quoted $3800 (seat supplied by me), basically to install different kind of backflow prevention and containment devices near the meter which requires annual inspection.
Are taking a piss or that is a legit cost of installing a bidet in Australia?
Can anyone recommend a honest, good and reliable plumber to replace our old toilet in our house. Our toilet is old and the base is cemented, the plumber said it will take time to remove the old toilet and sand down the base to put in the new toilet. He said he will replace the flexible hose and change the tap. I got one quote for $1550 for whole package (remove and dispose, supply rimless closed coupled toilet and install) i am not sure if it is a good price. The plumber suggest the toilet and I dont know the brand because I dont get to choose any style and i dont know how much is the toilet. I left a message to a few plumbers found on google but no one get back to me. It could be my job is too small for them. I just don't want to get ripped off so i want to compare a few quote. Thank you for your help.
Hi All, does anyone have experience with Vola Shower systems. I’m looking for a plumber in the Boston area to replace the diverted on our system. I’ve had 2 plumbers come out who don’t seem to understand how this system works.
I called a local plumbing company and requested to have my downpipes scoped as I believe there is a leak in one of them where they go down and connect to the 100mm. When the plumber arrived he told me that his camera was too big for the downpipes which was the first time this was mentioned to me. He said he could put it in the headpipe of my charged rainwater collection system to see if he can find any leaks in the section viewable from that point. I agreed as I had already waited a two weeks for the call out and was eager for some answers.
It dawned on me after they left that the camera used was designed for 100mm pipe and thus probably mostly used in raw sewage.
Is it reasonable to expect that I should have been told about this before agreeing to have the equipment used in my drinking water system?
