Do you ever spend money just to avoid feeling left out?

Sometimes I'll agree to something knowing it's not great for my budget because I don't want to miss out or be the one saying no again.

Has anyone regretted choosing a more expensive car because it was on a novated lease?

One thing I've noticed is that the monthly cost can make a more expensive car feel easier to justify.

What's something you've stopped buying that you genuinely miss?

Trying to spend less has been easier in some areas than others. There are a few things I've cut back on that I still think about every now and then. What's yours?

What's a frugal habit you tried that actually ended up costing you more money?

A few years ago I got obsessed with always buying the absolute cheapest version of everything. The problem was some of those purchases needed replacing far more often than the slightly more expensive alternatives. It made me realise that being frugal and being cheap aren't always the same thing.

Best places to study on the Bentley campus that are not the main library

The main library gets absolutely packed during mid semesters and exam blocks. Where are the best quiet spots or lesser known computer labs across the campus where you can actually sit down and get some solid work done without hunting for a desk?

What is the most useless elective subject you have taken at this university?

What is a unit that sounded super interesting on the official handbook description but turned out to have a completely chaotic structure, terrible marking rubrics, and an unnecessarily harsh final exam?

Is the Curtin stadium gym membership worth it compared to a standard commercial gym?

Looking at signing up for a gym membership and the student rates at the stadium look decent on paper. My main concern is how packed it gets right after classes finish at 4 pm. Do you actually get a chance to use the squat racks or are you just standing around waiting for 30 minutes?

I would pay an extra premium just to have the Classic Invoicing layout back

I need to vent about the new invoicing screen. I try so hard to get used to it, but the layout is a nightmare. They took a streamlined, highly efficient data-entry screen that worked perfectly for fast paced bookkeeping and turned it into a bloated, modern corporate interface that completely slows down my weekly workflow. Why do software companies insist on fixing things that aren't broken?

Do you feel like lectures or recorded content help more?

In lectures, I end up trying to keep up with everything in real time and miss bits without even realising it. With recordings, I can actually pause, rewind, and properly understand what was said instead of just writing things down and hoping it makes sense later. Still not perfect, but it feels a bit more manageable that way.

Golden handcuffs are starting to feel a bit too heavy

Appreciate the cash but the 2/1 roster is starting to grind me down to nothing. Missed another mates wedding last weekend and the social life back home is basically non existent now. How do you blokes know when it is actually time to walk away and take a massive pay cut for a normal job?

Career progression paths for a process operator

I have been offered a role as a green process operator in a gold plant. I am keen to know what the long term career trajectory looks like in the metallurgy and processing stream if you do not have a formal university qualification. Can you eventually work up to management or do you hit a ceiling?

I swear finding a good place to study becomes a mission during busy weeks

I end up spending more time walking around campus looking for a decent spot than actually studying sometimes. Every place I try is either packed or way too noisy, especially during busy weeks when everyone seems to have the same idea at the same time. It feels like if you don’t grab a spot early, you’re just bouncing between buildings.
