Is upgrading the CPU worth it if I can keep everything else?

I've already got an AM5 board, decent DDR5 and a good cooler, so upgrading the CPU would be relatively straightforward. The current processor isn't terrible, but I'm starting to notice it in some games. Would you upgrade now or squeeze another couple of years out of the platform?

Time poor dad in search of laptop to play games on!

Budget $1500

Needs to be a laptop for travel purposes (would love a permanent home set up but not an option right now)

Games I'm aiming for are Balders Gate, Skyrim, games in that vein that my basic laptop can't handle.

Any guidance would be appreciated as it has been many years since I've had the chance to look into this.

Thanks!

Moving PC Interstate

I am moving from Brisbane to Perth and want to ship over my PC. I am looking for advice from anyone else who has done this? It is too far to drive so I will be flying. I watched a few videos on how to pack the PC safely for shipping and the main advice was to remove large parts like the GPU and tower cooler (I got a xfx 9070xt and a thermalright PA so I will be doing this regardless) and then pack it back in the original box the case came in. The trouble is I do not have this box or packaging and I am finding it quite tricky to find a box that is the right size. I have a lian li lancool 216rw for reference.

I got a quote from pack and send who want to charge $300 which seems quite expensive but includes warranty. On the other hand, if I can pack it myself I can pay for that cover as well and I imagine it would still be substantially cheaper.

Any advice on finding a box that is the right size? I tried computer alliance but they said they don't have spare case boxes because they ship them all to customers.

The other alternative could be to just disassemble the whole thing and take/ship all the parts in their packaging (which I have for at least the GPU, cooler and mobo) and then just get a new case when I move.

Cheers!

Anyone see the price hike….

Hey guys I just wanted to share how lucky I was….on Sunday I decided I wanted to replace my gpu and get the Gigabyte 5080, I headed down to centrecom since they were open and had it in stock. I asked them if they could price match Scorptec as they had it listed for $2399. CC agreed and i went on my way. 24 hours later (yesterday), I see that CC has up their price to $2999, even more than ASUS 5080 astral. These price hikes are nuts. Happy Tuesday to everyone

Upgrading advice

I want to upgrade my computer a little bit, im currently using a 4070 gpu, 32gb ddr4, ryzen 5 5600g (idk why i got the G i bought it when i didnt know anything), i want to upgrade because of modded minecraft, it runs at super slow speeds and i have to host the worlds myself when i play with friends, and regardless if im hosting it is still getting like 30fps. i was looking at the 7800x3d and motherboards and stuff but mainly i wanted to ask 1 what SHOULD i upgrade for that and 2. if i do go am5, is 16gb of ram enough because shilling out 600 bucks for 32gb is rough, also if i do just get 16gb would i then later be able to get a second stick of ram?

thanks all for any help or advice whatsoever.

Prebuilt PC Case gear

Hi I was wandering if this is a good deal? I know nothing about pc's so my long distance boyfriend helped me find a prebuilt since he has great knowledge in Pc's but he's also wondering if pc case gear is a good place to buy from since he's not from here. My budget is $2.5k

He has also looked through aftershock, nebula, centrecom and other sites but he said the prebuilts on there look way too expensive for how much its really worth as well

RAM update good enough?

I currently am struggling running things now and was unsure if a RAM update to (2x16GB) from 12GB will be good enough to get me some more life or is it time to pull the plug on a new laptop. I currently like to play Genshin and WoW, but have to shut everything else down when i do one of them. Chrome seems to be the bane and ive already done as many cleanup/purges as possible

System Model HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eg0053cl

Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz, 2419 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

Adapter Description Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics, 2GB

Memory 12GB

HD: SSD 1TB

EDIT: Consensus is RAM wont help with games bogging down, needs better HW. Thanks All

Zephyrus G16 - is this price too good to be true?

My apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to post this.

I've been looking for a new laptop for some time now and found this on Amazon AU. It's sold by Amazon AU so it has warranty and is protected by consumer law. I spoke to support and confirmed this in writing and they also said it's not a grey import.

I just think this is too good to be true? Maybe it's used but I can't tell from the listing.

Specs below:

2025 G16 GU605CP-QR029W

- Core Ultra 9 285H

- RTX 5070

- 32GB RAM

- 2TB storage

- OLED 2560 X 1600

Thank you :)

EDIT: local brick and mortar stores are selling this same laptop for much more (4.5-5.5K)

Prebuilt PC centre com

Hi!

I am just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this gaming pc?

https://www.centrecom.com.au/centre-com-athena-ryzen-7-5800x3d-rx-9070-xt-gaming-pc-with-windows-11?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17423751068&gbraid=0AAAAADrCcHrreTLhNcRML-9zhfq0aJngc&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-frTBhCvARIsADv4XY7mTFjGZjBWyn-H4AAJJhb2gU6vFgVzXYHMMF0we4yGSjizDRD1ozAaAsF4EALw_wcB

I will be using it for gaming in games like fortinte, valorant, simracing (asseto corsa, f1 25), fifa games and single player games like red dead redemption.

I put the parts into pc part picker and it seems to be good value. I realise it's am4 socket but after a little bit of research it doesn't seem to bad to have an am4 in 2026. I was also wondering if the cpu will bottleneck the gpu?

I will be upgrading from an rtx 3050 gaming laptop so it should be a big jump.

Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance!

Opinions on the current ozbagain deals

Looking at getting myself a pc and have been looking for deals for the last month or so. What’s everyone’s opinion on this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/971046 Not very savvy when it comes to pcs in general so need some advice. Currently have a 1440p 144hz monitor so anything that works well with that I’m happy with. Would love any suggestions or advice. Cheers Edit : Budget is around 2k but happy to stretch if it’s worth it

I need of a help

Hello

I am not that experienced with PCs. I ordered a Nebula PC a month ago, and it has been delayed. I got this email today, and I want to ask for advice.

u/kamo_21 — 9 days ago

What’s a PC part you regret not buying when it was on sale?

Saw a few good deals recently and it got me thinking about the ones that got away. The kind of sale you talk yourself out of because you reckon the price will come down again, then it never does. Could be an old GPU, a monitor, SSD, CPU or even something small that ended up costing way more later.

Need advice and help for a gaming pc

Hi all!

I'm attempting to get a gaming pc hopefully fairly soon, but I'm not really sure where to go,

I would prefer one in a physical store that I can visit to pick up, preferably somewhere in Perth if possible.

I Maximume a Max budget of about 4k, but if possible I would like to spend a little less. I've been toldthat if I want a good gaming pc it'll cost about 4k - 5k

But any help and advice in general is incredibly helpful.
