Yasuo Diary 001: Bringing him into ranked

I made a post the other day asking, “when do I stop going 1/10”. Well after 2 days of only playing yasuo, I finally was getting some consistent results in norms, so I decided to bring him to ranked!

For context, I’m exclusively a jungler only. Really don’t play lane in ranked at all except roaming support (Alistar, thresh, pyke). I main Graves & Rengar, if that highlights my playstyle. The account I’m on is currently bronze, with gold/plat MMR.

So, I’m learning Yasuo & midlane together. Immediately, the laners are much more conservative with their trades. My first game I went 1/13 while being flamed by my jungler since the first wave. I went against a Leblanc, a champ I never really played against but knew what she did. I quickly learnt how strong electrocute is (or maybe, I’m wrong). Took a bad trade at level 2 that resulted in setting the tempo the entire game. I ended up 1/13 but quickly became the macro sidelaner I needed to be until I got IE. A rough lesson.

Next game, I played against a mordekaiser mid. I felt I was playing it really well but ultimately, I think their team was just much better with the consistent jungle & support ganks/dives that were happening on me. This game, I learned that tracking the jungler isn’t enough, I need to apparently track the support too.

Then, I went against Aatrox in the top lane. A very simple lane, he ended up rage quitting after 1v2’ing the malphite gank. I felt really confident this game.

Afterwards, ekko mid. I felt I played the lane as well as I could, but it became very uninteractive after I solo’d him. I was expecting more fighting, but he wasn’t having it. I think this game I learnt that not everyone will want to fight, and I need to spam ping my jungler to invade when I perma shove the laner in.

The next game was Velkoz. Never played against this champ in a lane other than bot (usually I’ll lock pyke or even rengar support). Totally annoying lane with electrocute. Took a few bad trades in lane in a matchup that I was thinking I would dominate in. The game became very scrappy afterwards, so to the sidelanes I went!

Finally, Vex. I knew after the first few wave interactions that this vex was not amazing. However, it felt like a completely unplayable matchup. Again, electrocute seems to be doing me in. But, the game became a toxic scrap fest with my Seraphine completely mental booming, so this game was a write off improvement wise.

Feel free to comment or ignore this post, it’s sort of for me to keep myself interested while I recover from a surgery. My big takeaway from today is the electrocute rune. I really don’t respect the trade damage it gives, even if I run it myself on some junglers. I also find myself completely screwing my wave states on this champ quite a bit. I’m always looking for a shove + jungle roam, but maybe it’s not the best.

Any typical matchup tips is always appreciated!

Picked up this champ. When do i stop going 1/10 every game?

Trying to learn yasuo since he's the only champ I don't play. Feel like the bad trades I'm taking to limit test and dying just results in me inting the entire game since i'm too weak to do anything. Any general tips on playstyle for him?

What to incorporate into family construction business?

To preface, my father owns a construction business that primarily does construction management & formwork subcontracting on large multifamily projects (150,000+ sqft lots, typically). However, I’ve noticed while working the last few months & learning from him that he’s a bottleneck; all the decisions go through him ranging from PM, estimating, contract negations with subs & more.

I am managing the development of an infill property on some land the company owns, which is a learning curve for me. I see the company forking into two directions: builder that manages their own developments or developers only. He wishes for the prior. However, the structure is just not there. My father is very entrepreneurial & I would say his small business revenues around $4-7M depending on the market. He has just bought a 20% stake in another construction company expected to revenue $15M+.

He’s asked me to begin formalizing the small business or either start my own. I do not come from a business background, but from an urban planning one so my strength is in development rather than construction.

TL;DR: Family has small business in construction & needs to begin having formal systems that’ll allow for the operation of the work to continue. Any tips or books I should read as I learn his industry? The business has no digital footprint, leads are all relationships he’s built/personal & most contract meetings for procured work are handled by him.

Books to read while undergoing a 6 month recovery

Hi,

Unfortunately, I’ve suffered a bad rupture to my quadricep tendon & life will be on hold for a few months. I thought, why not get back into reading since I’m laying in bed withering away. I’m currently reading, “The Cat Who Saved Books.” Years ago, when I had the time (my excuse), I would frequently read anything by Iris Murdoch. I’m open to any suggestions, any genre.

When I was a younger man, I would go out of my way to avoid fiction. However, I wouldn’t mind escaping for a bit now.

How to maximize Claude usage?

Reading this subreddit has me thinking in such a small pond. How do I maximize the way I use Claude daily? Currently, I work as a developer project coordinator in real estate. Some tasks include reading & keeping up to date with policy, creating financial projections (pro forma & all it entails), budgets, analyzing unit efficiency & mix/layout, and more. However, I want to make sure I’m acting in a completely efficient matter.

I also wouldn’t mind using it to learn new applicable skills for the job, and personal skills.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I’m doing a career switch into the family business, my father is a concrete forming contractor & it’s been an absolute shit show! I’ve enrolled in some night classes to get some certs because I’m:

(A) not feeling mentorship & need a potential backup.
(B) project management seems absolutely chaotic and I’m not sure I like the environment of on site
(C) I’ve looked a bit into estimating, and my background is in physics and I do math as a hobby, so it seems more interesting to me.

I’ve got a senior estimator as a midsize GC specializing in multifamily that agreed to teach me estimating (informally).

Do you have any tips or insights? I grew up around construction & development, was on the tools from 19-22 as a formwork carpenter. Now in my 30’s, I’m looking for a switch, mainly to help dad ease out of the business and finally retire in a few years.

Cheers!
