2002-2009 Layne Staley Memorial T-Shirts

This is my ‘magnum opus’, the complete set of initial ‘Layne Staley Tribute Show’ merchandise, from years 2002-2009. I believe I am one of the few people who have the completed set (I don’t know of anyone that does). The yearly tribute show is still happening to this day, but after 2009 the merchandise started to take a different approach, straying away from using Layne’s artwork and pictures of his actual likeness.

Years 2002-2004 feature Layne’s artwork from 1994, while years 2005-2009 feature actual pictures of Layne taken throughout the early 90s. All of these shirts are insanely rare and difficult to find, but the 2008 tee might be the most rare, I only know of one other person that has it. It took me a little over a year to track all of these down and complete my collection.

I strongly believe Layne is one of the best vocalists in history and this is my way of keeping his legacy alive. I would really appreciate anyone that shares this post as I am very passionate about this and would love for other fans of Layne, Alice in Chains, and Mad Season to see these amazing shirts as well.

Which year is your favorite? 👀

2007 Layne Staley Memorial T-Shirt

Another rare one added to my Layne Memorial Tee collection! This is the second to last year that I needed to complete the set. I believe I am one of the first people to ever complete the entire set of initial Layne Staley Memorial Tees, 2002-2009. The original event organizers separated after 2009.

The event is still happening yearly under new organizers with the merchandise taking a different approach, no longer using Layne’s artwork and actual likeness.

I am so stoked to have this in my collection, featuring a picture of Layne, the GOAT, performing on stage with his signature in the bottom right. The photo was taken by Darren Balch.

Vintage 2005 Layne Staley Memorial T-Shirt

I’ve had this one for a few weeks now. This tee is insanely rare and the fade on it is amazing.

Featuring a picture of Layne on the front, and the words ‘Layne Staley Tribute’ on the back. This shirt is from the yearly Layne Staley Tribute Show held in Seattle, Washington on the weekend falling closest to Layne’s birthday (8/22).

The picture on the front of the shirt was taken by Kathy Hazel (thank you, commenter).

My Predictions for High Point!

These predictions are assuming it's not a mudder, if it is a mudder, you might as well pull names out of a hat.

450 Class:

  1. Jett
  2. Hunter (wouldn't be surprised if Hunter bests Jett, he was pretty good here last year and Jett made quite a few uncharacteristic mistakes)
  3. Deegan (I think this is going to be the top 3 for the majority of the season, unless Prado proves otherwise)
  4. Prado
  5. Marchbanks (he was really good here last season on a 250)

250 Class:

  1. Hammaker (Pennsylvania boy, got his first moto podium here last year)
  2. Shimoda (he might win the overall, and if he does, everyone else better watch out)
  3. Kitchen (starts are going to be a thorn in his side again)
  4. Davies (has the speed to win, but has been making too many mistakes, it is his rookie season to be fair)
  5. Beaumer (JuJu has been very consistent thus far)

Those are my predictions, throw them all out the window if it's a mudder, let's hear yours!

Penalties for the 450 Class have been updated.

Looks like multiple riders got penalized, Garrett Marchbanks ends up getting 3rd place! Lol

Deegan has quite literally been cutting the track every single lap.

Surely there has to be some sort of penalty, right? That is wild, completely blatant too.

2009 Layne Staley Memorial T-Shirt

This is the last year of the original batch of merchandise from the yearly Layne Staley Tribute Show held in Seattle, Washington. Merchandise after this year started to take a different approach, featuring artist designs instead of Layne’s artwork and actual likeness.

I have been able to collect all of the original batch of merchandise, years 2002-2009. I will be showcasing my collection over the next couple weeks, finishing it off with a group photo of all the tees. I believe I am one of the few to have every single year.

Featuring a picture of Layne, the GOAT, on the front of the shirt taken by Kathy Hazel. I’ve had this in my collection for a while now and it’s definitely one of my favorites. I even wore it to Disneyland and took a picture in front of the Alice in Wonderland ride last year (see last slide).

Cool picture that I took of Jett at Hangtown!

It looks like the cloud is coming out of his exhaust. 👽

Jett Lawrence is the best rider to ever swing his leg over a dirtbike.

Will he stack enough accolades and records to become the ‘greatest’? I guess we’ll find out.

In my mind, there is a difference between the ‘best’ and ‘greatest’ rider of all time. The greatest rider of all time, Ricky Carmichael, has the most accolades and records. I believe if Jett can stay healthy, he will become the ‘greatest’ rider of all time, it will just take time. He is already the ‘best’ rider of all time, meaning his talent, speed, consistency, race craft, line choice, bike prowess, and technique are far and away the best we’ve ever seen.

I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to beat him across an entire Championship straight up. He isn’t as dominant in Supercross, that’s the only discipline I think someone will be able to challenge him in.

I was at the track yesterday, and as a lifelong fan of moto, I’ve never seen anything like it, it was absolutely mind blowing.

I know I’m going to get a lot of flack for this, because people seem to love to hate him for some reason, but for those people, just try to set your biases aside and look at it logically, he is the best to ever do it. If you don’t want to take my word for it, look at the way other riders talk about him.

Vintage 1992 Alice in Chains ‘Would?’ Band T-Shirt

This is one of the first Alice in Chains tees that I added to my collection. I purchased it from an estate sale company that got the tee from an original owner who had passed away. It’s an honor to carry on the legacy and life of this tee, it’s a really good one, and was in immaculate condition when I first received it.

This is obviously from the ‘Dirt’ era of Alice in Chains. ‘Would?’ being one of their most lyrically deep songs, about Mother Love Bone’s lead singer, Andrew Wood, and his battle with addiction that he ultimately lost. To this day, this is one of their most popular songs. The MTV Unplugged performance of this song is my personal favorite.

I also included a couple pics of Layne & Jerry, see last few slides!

Vintage 1990s Alice in Chains ‘Facelift Era’ Bootleg Band T-Shirt

This shirt is insanely rare, I’ve only ever seen one or two pop up online since I started collecting Alice in Chains tees. I did some research on the photo featured on the front of the tee and discovered other photos taken during the same photoshoot (see last two slides), dated 1990, making this a Facelift era tee.

It’s really difficult to find an authentic 1990s vintage Alice in Chains tee with a full band photo on it, yet alone with Mike Starr, near impossible. The back of the shirt features the names of the band members along with their positions in the band. The same year that the best live performance in history was recorded, ‘Live at the Moore’.

Track seems very difficult to pass on tonight.

These first two heats have been snoozers, hopefully something changes by the main events.

The track designs/layouts have been the one major downside this season, in my opinion.

Looks like it’s going to be another weekend of Startcross.

Vintage 1992 Alice in Chains ‘X-Ray’ Band T-Shirt

This one is a grail of mine and is the latest Alice in Chains tee added to my collection.

This shirt originates from Layne Staley breaking his foot while riding an ATV. This is the ACTUAL x-ray of Layne’s foot, with his name and the date it was taken on the bottom right of the graphic. The band continued to tour while Layne was recovering, Layne often performing in a wheelchair or on crutches (see last few slides). According to Layne “I didn’t break my neck, so there’s no excuse not to play”.

One of the stops on the tour was in nearby San Jose, man, what I’d give to have been able to attend that! 😭
