Results and stats

Hey guys, since I used this subreddit a lot I think I should share my results:

Applied NYU CAS Econ and USC Econ. I want to do finance but I didn’t want to risk not getting in because I applied Business.

Results:

NYU: >!ACCEPTED!<

USC: >!ACCEPTED!<

Stats: Mid tier UC, 3.93 gpa first q, 3.79 gpa second q, 3.73 gpa 3rd q. Transferring as a sophomore. Super involved in 3 clubs and like 5 more orgs on campus. Also created my own tutoring service. Everything was mostly geared towards finance.

Hs stats: 3.9 uw and 4.3 w. 5 aps but scores werent that great ngl. Similar ECs but at the high school level.

Notes: I got in nyu on the earliest wave and I think its cause i applied super early. USC was the opposite and I got in last tuesday. Usc gave me sgr where NYU did not. Ngl i love nyc and nyu but the fact that i cant transfer into the bus school kinda makes me not want to go. Econ isnt bad but i would feel super trapped. USC actually lets u transfer if you want eventually. If i got in stern id prob go nyu because the ranking but otherwise usc was my dream all along. My only regret was not applying vandy and that was cause i didnt get enough letters of rec. oh ya a tip of advice is to get the recs SUPER early and make those connections w teachers first q. If anyone has any questions pls dm me and i am happy to go into more specifics!

Pass no Pass Cooked For USC SGR?

I took one of the core req classes pass no pass and it doesn’t even relate to my major. My other classes are all As tho. I did this just to preserve my GPA.

Does a Pass grade in a GE look that bad for transfer?

Basically, I took a class just for the USC transfer requirement but it had nothing to do with my major and it's the only Pass class I have ever taken. I know the highest grade I could possibly get would be a B+ or maybe an A- if I really went all in but both would drop my gpa. If I do Pass no Pass I will keep my cumulative gpa at 3.83. I'm at a UC so that's why I'm still in school.

Please give me advice on my transfer/life situation

TLDR: I want to work in finance (IB preferably), I'm a freshman at UCSB, applied to transfer to NYU and USC (econ both), got in NYU, got a SGR from USC yesterday.

When I was a senior in HS I thought I wanted to stay close to home so I only applied UCs and USC. I only got into UCSB and I totally regret not appealing the USC decision. I had a 4.3 W 3.9 UW in HS. Now I have a 3.79 at UCSB and I think I will end with a 3.82 here. I initially applied to transfer at the 2 places I could really see myself. I didn't apply anywhere else because I didn't even know that the chances were pretty good to do 4 year to 4 year transfer. USC was always my top option and I applied nyu as a back up but not really thinking about it. Now that I got in NYU, I realize that CAS econ is not worth it to go and pay almost 100k a year for. However, even if I study econ at USC, its still worth it for me personally. I just want advice on what i should do from here. I honestly like UCSB and have made friends but I want a high paying finance role and UCSB just doesn't seem like it'l help me.

Additionally, I followed the usc transfer planning guide dilligently. I based my schedules around it so that I would complete the reqs. This was super hard to do and I totally went out of my way to do it. For example, I took classes called Antarctica and Dinosaurs which don't help me at UCSB at all, solely for USC. I was so bummed when I got a SGR yesterday. My ECs and essays were honestly really great. I am probably the most involved freshman you can get at UCSB. I am currently taking dinosaurs now but it's notorious for being one of the hardest classes here. It would take up so much of my time to get an A so I made it pass no pass as it won't even count towards my curriculum at UCSB. I would probably get a B+ if I did my very best though but that would drop my gpa. I will get As in my 2 other classes this quarter so my quarter gpa will be 4.0.

I toured NYU and I honestly loved it. The city, the people, the school itself (i actually like the no campus thing). The only problem with nyu is I can't transfer to stern. For the price out of state and the distance to my home it's prob not worth it for me.

Let me know what you think I should do with my life from here ngl. This is definitely a first-world problem but it pisses me off because my friend who worked less hard than me in my same position got in USC. 😭

"Pass" vs B+

TLDR: I applied econ to usc transfer and a transfer req is to take an earth science class at my 4 year and it's dam near impossible to get an A

So I'm taking 3 classes this quarter and I know I will get As in 2 of them but not the third which is "Dinosaurs". I took this only for USC transfer - it does not benefit me at all at my current 4 year. Also this class would require way too many hours in order to get an A so i'd rather put my time into my econ classes. I could probably manage to get a B+ but that would lower my GPA. if I make this class a pass, then it doesn't affect my gpa and I will have a 4.0 for this quarter. Am i cooked?
