Persistent infant dyschezia - help!
I’m writing to see if anyone else has experienced what we have been dealing with for the majority of my 3 month old’s life so far. We are pretty certain he has at least a very bad case of dyschezia. We expected this to improve around 12 weeks, but it seems to actually be getting worse. He spends a lot of his awake time straining, grunting, arching, crying, and typically the only thing that consoles him is nursing him. Most nights have been very difficult since our first night home from the hospital. He squirms and cries in his crib during a lot of the night, and only naps on my chest during the day. We have taken him to the ER once, and had multiple appointments with his pediatrician to try to determine what is causing him pain and how to help him. I feel like I’ve tried everything - I went dairy free, switched formulas (we combo feed and we now use a hypoallergenic formula), stopped drinking caffeine, tried reflux medication, gas drops, probiotics, daily belly massages and bicycle kicks, Windi gas sticks, warm baths, foot massages, lots of tummy time, paced feeding, frequent burping… none of these have been much help. He now only poops every few days, but the consistency has always been very liquidy. We have an appointment scheduled with a pediatric GI specialist after he hits 4 months old, but I worry they are going to tell us there’s nothing that can be done. Does anyone have advice? If your baby had a similar issue, when did it resolve? Everything I’ve heard and read says dyschezia typically only lasts for a few weeks at most.
