This is called brood parasitism. Cuckoos lay eggs in other birds’ nests, tricking host parents because the eggs closely mimic their own. The host bird unknowingly raises the cuckoo chick, which hatches earlier, grows faster, and may even push the host’s eggs out of the nest to monopolize food.
