Cape Verde?

My friend and I (25M & 26M) are planning our first trip to Cape Verde after seeing all the recent attention it’s been getting, and we’d rather hear from people who actually know the islands than rely on travel blogs.

We’re looking for the island that best fits what we’re after. Our priorities are:

  1. Nightlife with a good atmosphere
  2. Meeting people/locals and other travelers
  3. Great beaches
  4. Nature/ water related, not big hikers

We’re not expecting some wild party destination like Medellín, and we’re happy to respect the local culture if people are generally more reserved. We just don’t want to spend a few thousand dollars only to realize we picked the quietest island when another would’ve been a much better fit.

A little background: I’m pretty new to traveling. Up until now, I’ve only been to Cancún because it was my first international trip, I went solo, and it felt like an easy place to get my feet wet. It did exactly that—it gave me the confidence to start exploring more of the world.

Now I’m trying to move away from the obvious tourist destinations. I’d rather travel because a place has its own culture, people, music, and identity than because it’s the trendy destination everyone on social media is flying to. I’m much more interested in being a respectful traveler than fitting into the whole “passport bro” stereotype.

For context, I’m Nigerian/Jamaican and my friend is Honduran/Black, if that makes any difference to your recommendations or experiences.
If you had to recommend one or two islands—or even specific towns—for guys in our mid-20s looking for a fun, social vacation, where would you send us, and why?

I’d really appreciate any honest advice. If there’s somewhere that fits what we’re looking for better than the places most tourists end up, I’d love to hear about it. I’d much rather learn from people who know Cape Verde than blindly follow the same itinerary everyone else does.
