Project Hail Mary - JooHour Space Capsule Custom mod.. with video

This is my Project Hail Mary total conversion of the outstanding JooHour Space Capsule book nook. I've been teasing this off and on, and I got swept up in some work stuff that delayed me several weeks, but I finished it this week and decided to edit together a little demo.

If you haven't seen the movie, you should, no spoilers in this design. I obviously found it very special.

I added lights into the base under the floor, and into the walls, using gels to change their colors. The video screen is a raspberry pie driving a 3.8 inch screen looping a couple of seconds from the movie when Grace is outside the Hail Mary. I replaced the original backing and design off the back and 3D printed a new back wall and airlock, sticking the screen in there. the pie and screen fit inside, I didnt have to do any external mods to fit it in. there's just an extra power cord for it.

The base nook is full of static info screens around the ship. I replaced the default stickers for those with new stickers showing display screens from the film.

And of course I repainted every surface in the entire nook to match the darker tones of the film. Rocky is a 3D print from the model on the official Project Hail Mary film website, painted with some warhammer paints for a little extra detail.

Shipping notice!

I know everyone likes to try and figure out their own timelines, so here’s another reference point. I ordered a set of constellations on March 17th and they schedule to be here Saturday.

Midstream I asked virpil for an update and they said it would be end of June and they turned out to be exactly on target.

Space Capsule Progress

I started this over a month ago and was interrupted by work. This week I’ve been able to get back to my Project Hail Mary conversion of the Joohour Space Capsule. Most of the screens around the lab have new stickers to match screens from the film. And I 3D printed a new airlock to more closely match the one in the film.

I’m still working to get the lighting where I want it and another surprise mounted properly.

A question about specifying height

I'm working on a little test project and I've boiled it down to this core question:

Is it possible to precisely set a certain area for a certain height? precise being within reason of course.

Imagine 5 circles on a page that are 1/2 an inch in diameter and I want the highest to be 5mm and the others are basically 1mm less each time. is there a way to generate that or assign a color to that height or something in the software?

New to the P1

Long time FDMer, first time resiner. The slicer estimate on my test stl is 18 minutes. 121 layers with 2 seconds on and 2 seconds off. When the job starts it jumps to an hour and 20 min, basically 1 min per layer, but the app doesn’t indicate anything that would be causing the change.

What should I be looking for here?

I’m having problems with my 4 year old UDM Pro. It’s been requiring a total power down and restart about every two weeks. It also hangs in a semi infinite loop if I just do a soft restart.

I’m also having a very strange problem where any social media platform video only plays about halfway through and then stops and the page has to be reloaded. I can’t even begin to theorize why. But it’s happening on multiple devices on multiple platforms. YouTube is also having trouble loading thumbnails and that’s usually the indicator to go unplug and plug it back in.

Is any of this known behavior of a system that’s short timing it?

Thought I’d share progress on my replacement for the arcade game in this nook. This is probably my favorite nook I’ve done and I was a little disappointed in the heavily wooden look of the default game. I’m still figuring this out, it’s close, but I still need to print a hollow version or at least some channels for the internal lighting. And print some sticker art for the side of the cabinet.
