Cross training as bartender

Hi! So i’ve been working at my OG for around 3 months as a server, I really enjoy it and one day I was talking with a coworker behind the bar and she was showing me what she has to do to close it, a manager came up and asked if I was interested in doing bartending and I said yeah sure although I have 0 experience, like this is actually my first job ever and I have 0 alcohol knows too. Then a few days passed and I decided to asked another manager if I could train to be bartender and she said sure. I told some of my (server) coworkers and their reactions were all negative saying that I should take it back and don’t work at the bar bc i’m gonna get overwhelmed way too fast and that servers get really mean with the bartenders during a rush. That kinda scared me a bit buuut apparently the GM liked the idea and I just got done with my two day training for bartending and I might get my first bartending shift next week.

Both the trainer and the GM told me that I have to set my boundaries with the servers and host (like only taking care of the bar and not accepting any tables if i’m not ready to) which I liked, but I still feel nervous so I was wondering if you guys have any advice? Only thing I fully know how to make is the smoothies and strawberry mango margarita but that’s just bc I trained on Monday/Tuesday and we barely got any drink orders.

Any advice is appreciated! Also has anyone else done this? Is it a good idea? I guess it’s too late to backtrack but any thoughts are welcomed

Scholarship appeal process

Hi, I’m a Hofstra student and my first year was honestly really bad, one of my professors needs to put my last grade in but i’m 1000% sure I failed his class (I made my assumptions based on the syllabus), so now my overall gpa for my first year is probably a 2.0 (it’s already a 2.32). Anyway, at the beginning of my spring semester I got called in by my advisor saying that I might have to make an appeal for my scholarship if i couldn’t bring my gpa to a 2.8, clearly I couldn’t (which I’m really ashamed of) and now I’m just really really scared about losing my scholarship.

Has anyone appealed their scholarship?? My advisor told me that you basically have to explain why you couldn’t keep your gpa up and what I would be doing to keep it up and that based on that they would decide to renew my scholarship and she told me that it wasn’t guaranteed. I’m so scared to tell my parents bc i’ve basically been lying and telling them that I did good bc they’re already putting so much pressure on me, and the only reason why I can even afford coming here is bc of my scholarship. Has anyone been through something similar?? Like how likely is it that my scholarship will be renewed? Basically both my parents are working so I’ve been having to take care of my brother, I was stupid and took 3 math classes, one of them that started at 8:00am (i’m a commuter), and I’m pretty sure i’ve had adhd since highschool but my parents “don’t believe” in that and I feel stupid saying that I might have it because I know it sounds like an excuse but I’m going to talk to a therapist about it and idk.

TL;DR: This sounds more like a vent but does someone have any experience with appealing their scholarship?
