Except her being straight is not part of her oppression nor is being a cis woman in the sense that people are debasing her for identifying as her assigned sex at birth.

Women were 100% oppressed for being born women but not in a way where they were punished for being cis like how trans people were. Even now, cis women aren’t being oppressed simply because they’re cis. Also to whine about how people don’t find straight stories interesting or like straight people are being overshadowed WHEN ALL FOUR SEASONS FOCUSED ON STRAIGHT COUPLES INCLUDING THE SPIN off is pathetic.

You can absolutely want Sophie to be a woman to explore life for a bastard child who lives under patriarchal constraints as the receiver of it all but to genuinely whine she has to be straight (??? She can be pan or bi).

Like do I think bastard women have it awful? Yes. But I sure as hell am not going to act like her identity as a cishet woman contributes to that. The craziest part is people saying the Na’vi struck first, I mean OBVIOUSLY? The RDA wanted to destroy their sacred tree? Literally destroy their land?

I’d bet if it was reversed with the Na’vi wanting to destroy a sacred landmark on Earth & overall destroying parts of our nature, people would be bending over backwards to defending the human population “striking first” on the basis of well, it’s different because it’s us! So it isn’t hypocrisy at all.

Then there was someone saying well, the RDA was peaceful when the Na’vi, specifically the Mangkwan, cooperated. The FUCK? Dude, the guys who catcalled Neytiri couldn’t even tell who their actual allies are? Neytiri walked in with the paint in the wrong places & a FULL HEAD OF HAIR, a bow & arrow that doesn’t even resemble the Mangkwan’s!

Also they aren’t in any capacity actually “peaceful” with the Mangkwan as Edie Falco (forgot her character’s name sorry) straight up calls them savages? Hello? They also only align with the Mangkwan because they’re willing to help them brutalize other Na’vi clans! When it’s convenient the RDA will happily do so to the Mangkwan because they see them as literal savages.

Avatar is so clearly in your face about how colonialism, racism, large scale corporations, & greed is harmful, the movie is so *full* of analogies based on how real world indigenous people are treated, capitalism, & propaganda & still, STILL people just miss the point. I think that goes to show how much white washed history/propaganda has conditioned people.
