HMRC Compliance Caseworker 503R, Offered in May, still waiting for ID check, start date, Anyone else?

Hi everyone,

I accepted a provisional offer back in May for the HMRC Compliance Caseworker 503R campaign, based in the Belfast.

Since then, my pre-employment checks, PECs, have been practically at a standstill. I recently contacted recruitment, and they told me my details have been forwarded for a manual, face-to-face ID check, but they can't give me a specific timeframe or date for the invite yet.

I’m starting to get a bit anxious because I've noticed that people from the newer, concurrent Compliance Caseworker 558R campaign are already getting updates and provisional offers rolling out.

Is anyone else from the 503R batch, specifically in Belfast or other regional hubs, still stuck in this exact same position waiting for their ID check or a start date? Is it normal for mass recruitment campaigns to have this much of a gap between the provisional offer and the actual ID verification step?

Appreciate any insight or shared experiences!

Can I carry a sword in the office?

I have been in contact with another person who has been offered the same job as me in the same location. They however have also applied to be a manager one level up from my post.

I have said to him that if he gets the manager job, that I will be challenging him to a duel every time we meet. We both would therefore need to carry a sword on us at all times.

So what is the Civil Service Policy on Swords?

Is my job offer still live Compliance Caseworker 503r?

I applied for the HMRC Compliance Caseworker role (503r) last year and was placed on the reserve list. I was recently offered the role and am currently going through Pre-Employment Checks.

However, the results for the newer Compliance Caseworker campaign (558r), which I applied for before receiving the 503r offer, have just come out. I have been placed on the reserve list for 558r as well.

My question is about how these overlapping lists interact. I know that if I were still on the 503r reserve list, candidates with higher scores from the newer 558r campaign might be offered roles ahead of me. However, since I have already been formally offered the job from the 503r campaign and am actively in the PEC stage, is that offer locked in? Or could someone with a higher score in the 558r campaign displace my current offer?

Should I wait until I get my Compliance Caseworker Post or take up another job.

I have been offered the Compliance Caseworker position 503r post and am currently going through PEC's. I am currently awaiting confirmation of my start date.

I have recently received an offer of alternative employment and am trying to make an informed decision regarding my future plans. I remain very interested in the Compliance Caseworker role and would prefer to take up this position if possible.

I appreciate that recruitment and onboarding processes can take time, but I would be grateful if anyone could advise whether I should wait for a start date to be confirmed in the near future, or whether it would be advisable for me to accept the alternative job opportunity in the meantime.

What is the best HHD drive for just media storage

Hi, I have decided to buy my daughter a UGREEN DXP4800 Pro. I had a chat with her about it over weekend she suggested the Plus but I am going to get the Pro. I know it is overkill for what she wants to do now, but she may want to do something else next year, so I am future proofing it.

She just needs it for media storage, watching TV and movies. I would like to know what is the best 6TB HDD to buy. Can I buy a cheaper one because it is only for streaming media?

Just the basics

My daughter has asked me for a NAS for her birthday. I am looking at UGREEN as they have good reviews. She wants to be able to store her media on it and share it with her mum at another location.

My daughter has 2TB of movies and TV Shows. I don't think she wants to share any documents or photos etc.

I used to work in IT so I know a little bit about technology. I like to future proof anything I buy or build. I was thinking I could buy a 4 bay NAS such as a UGREEN NASync DH4300 Plus or the UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus 4-Bay-NAS. Any maybe 2x8TB HDD to start off with. I would use RAID1 as a setup.

I am trying to avoid building something myself but I want to have the security of customer support.

I just want to know what recommendations does anyone have for what I actually need. I don't want to overkill the purchase.

Should I keep my application for identical role open after job offer from first?

I applied to the Compliance Caseworker 503r with the HMRC. I was successful but put on waiting list. In the the meantime the second Compliance Caseworker 558r role was advertised. I was part way through the application, when I got a offer for 503r. I am currently completing the pre-employment checks for that.

Should I continue with the application for the 558r role?

I got scammed trying to buy Accessibilty ticket for The Cure on here

I feel like an idiot

Just a warning to anyone buying concert tickets through Reddit, especially for The Cure in Belfast.

I put a message on here and someone DM'd me to offer me a ticket. I agreed to buy a ticket from someone and paid them using Revolut. I had not used it before and had to set it up.

After the payment was sent, they then started insisting that I send a screenshot of the payment rather than simply confirming receipt in their account.

I refused, as they should already be able to see the payment arrive themselves. It immediately started to feel suspicious. Once I refused that was the end of the sale.

I have reported them as fraud and hopefully get my money back. It was £80 from my PIP. I should get it in 5 days according the Revolut.

Just a reminder to everyone:

  • Be careful buying tickets through Reddit or social media.
  • Use official resale or buyer-protected methods where possible.
  • Don’t send extra information or screenshots containing personal/payment details.
  • If something feels off after payment, trust your instincts.

Hopefully this helps someone avoid getting caught out.

What will happen now as the Judge recused herself.

Bit of an unexpected twist yesterday! I turned up for my hearing, in which I was representing myself, having prepared for months. The judge then read the evidence bundle for my civil claim against the police, she then realised that she was the exact same judge who convicted me in the original criminal case… the conviction that was later quashed.

Needless to say, that was awkward for everyone involved.

I genuinely didn’t know what would happen procedurally at that point. Does the judge normally recuse themselves automatically in that situation? Will the case now have to be transferred to a different court or just relisted before a different judge?

The judge looked a little red-faced when it clicked. I suppose it’s one of those situations where you can prepare for a lot in litigation, but you can’t plan for everything.

Interested to hear if anyone else has ever seen something similar happen.

Who can you use as references?

I am just wondering who can use as references? Does anyone know what the policy and procedure for references is? I have provided a personal and employment reference but don't know any professionals that I can use. I am not religious so don't know any pastor. Haven't seen or spoken to registered Dr in years.

Unfortunately I suffer from socio-phobia and don't have any friends I can ask. I just need a big list of who I can ask.

Thanks

I currently have a civil claim ongoing against the PSNI relating to wrongful arrest and false imprisonment. I’ve been very careful to keep my account completely accurate. I haven’t exaggerated anything because I know that if I’m caught out on even a small detail, it could undermine the whole case.

Last year I served a Letter Before Claim. As expected, their solicitors responded denying liability. What’s concerning is that their response includes an account of events that I know to be untrue.

For example, they claim I resisted officers and had to be handcuffed. That didn’t happen. I was fully cooperative throughout, precisely because I didn’t want to escalate the situation or create a negative impression. They also say I tried to block their entry into my home, which is false. They asked to come in and I agreed without issue.

Unfortunately, the officers didn’t activate their body worn cameras, so there’s no footage. It’s essentially my word against theirs.

My question is: is it appropriate or advisable to write back to the police solicitors and put them on notice that their client’s account is inaccurate, so they can review their position? Or is that something that should be left entirely to the formal litigation process?

I was wondering who everone is supporting in the World Cup, as Northern Ireland and Ireland have not qualified. I will mostlikely support our Celtic cousins in Scotland.
