Muse Having a Blast

I love it when the guys look like they are still enjoying making music. Video isn’t complete or pristine, but I would never want a static Matt Bellamy.

Personally, I love their live intros/outros. I managed to catch a bit of Calm Like a Bomb and Sweet Child O’Mine in Dallas.

What are your favorites?

Sweet Child O’Muse

Sorry it’s so shaky! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s really hard for me to get a professional looking video when holding still goes against every fiber of my being experiencing Muse live. Dallas 2026

Dallas Didn’t Disappoint

Of course I hoped for Sickness or The Dark Forest to debut in Dallas, but I’m pleased with what we got: MoTP, UD, Take a Bow were treats.

Personally, I liked having a full-circle moment when they opened with Hysteria just like they did 22 years and 20 Muse gigs ago in 2004 the first time I saw them.

Hexagons is one of the best songs they’ve ever written and I was ecstatic to hear it live. Not so excited about that cameraman that was all over Matt, or the 100+ degree heat, but it was worth it.

Of the new songs off The WOW! Signal, Cryogen and Unravelling stood out to me along with Hexagons.

We’ve got nine more US dates. Do you think they will switch up the setlist even more for their next leg? I’m wondering if they are waiting to debut TDF and Sickness on the arena tour.

Thoughts?

How many times have you witnessed Matt’s guitar toss?

This video is from 2019, which was my 15th time to see Muse. It was also the first for my 4-year-old grandson and second for my 6-year-old grandson (both boys were armed with snacks and ear protection).

If I could go back in time, I would love to see them in their early days when they ended with Bliss and joyously thrashed the stage.

For those of you who have seen it with your own eyes, help me live vicariously through you. What was it like?

Musical Theatre Vibes and Quieting The Cobra: My take on “Hush”

This is my review of Hush and one of my fuzzy iPhone photos. It really took me a minute to get past the initial musical theatre vibes, but it grew on me.

My teenager was not impressed, calling it “some Billie Eilish shit.” But guess who didn’t get a ticket for this summer’s amphitheater tour: That same teenager.

I, however, am going to my #20 in Dallas and #21 in Washington.

Frankly, it was too expensive to bring the kids. But I’m not heartless, I’ll take him to the arena tour.

I’m finding people either love this track or hate it. What do you think?

𝐇𝐮𝐬𝐡. In the weeks before 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑊𝑜𝑤! 𝑆𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑎𝑙 dropped, social media was buzzing with talk about this collaboration between Muse and Ellie Goulding. This track builds, becoming surprisingly heavy, and I think most of us were pleasantly surprised. I especially like the way Matt Bellamy’s final “hush” trails off, perfectly setting up Space Debris.

First listen? I thought it could easily fit a modern interpretation of 𝑊𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑆𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑆𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦. I could almost picture Matt as Tony and Ellie as Maria. (Be honest, who wouldn’t pay to see that?)

I’m imagining a narrative in which a couple struggles to shut out all the background noise to focus on their relationship. Unfortunately, we know that ended badly for Tony and Maria.

𝐹𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝐶ℎ𝑜𝑘𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑖𝑠𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝐹𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝐽𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎 𝑚𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝐻𝑢𝑠ℎ

The collaboration was a surprise, thrown together in a chance meeting during a late-night recording session. In interviews, Bellamy explained he’d known Goulding for years and had already discussed wanting to work together.

But it wouldn’t be our Muse without some weirdness.

In those same interviews, Bellamy admitted that the lyrics leaned toward pop, and he’s not kidding.

I’m curious for him to explain exactly what “quiet the cobra” means. (Seriously, is it a metaphor for calming a fear, or was it just the alliteration of 𝑐𝑙𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑟, 𝐶𝑜𝑏𝑟𝑎, and 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒? Is it simply meant to be phallic?”

𝐼𝑡'𝑠 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑐𝑙𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑟, 𝑞𝑢𝑖𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑏𝑟𝑎 𝐶𝑎𝑛'𝑡 𝑘𝑒𝑒𝑝 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒, 𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑡𝑜 𝑓𝑒𝑒𝑙 𝑖𝑡

Well, thank Heaven for late-night studio sessions, because this works. Goulding's light-as-a-feather voice is a perfect foil for Muse’s heavy prog-pop fusion.

Obviously we will want it live. Bellamy could simply sing it all himself. But, I picture them using a backing track and video of Goulding singing— similar to Queen performing with the digital ghost of Freddie Mercury.

A little weird, but acceptable.

Why not? Stranger things have happened.

Appreciation for Muse-adjacent supportive partners

Can we take a moment to appreciate our sometimes long-suffering partners? I'm talking about our Muse-adjacent partners who love us, but don't really know any of Muse's music.
Let me provide a bit of a backstory. Don’t worry, I’ll be brief.

I started dating my husband about 18 years ago. We had already been friends for several years; and had even walked down the aisle together as best man and maid of honor in our friends’ wedding.
By 2008, I was already a pretty dedicated Muse fan. I’d seen them twice and met them once. My husband definitely knew what he was getting when he chose me.
We got married in 2009, and I incorporated Muse into our processional: Unintended, followed by the Interlude, which bled into Vivaldi’s largo from Winter.
Since our marriage, I’ve seen Muse an additional 17 times. He will ask, “Haven’t you seen them enough?” And I patiently explain that you have to see multiple shows because they rotate certain songs on the setlist.

Here are some of the other ways he gives support:

  • He’s happily been a single parent for a weekend so I can take off across the country to continue the tradition of Muse with my best friend. We’ve seen them together four times so far, twice at the barrier.
  • With each new album release, he doesn’t complain when I play it over and over again ad nauseam.
  • When I get moody, and I admit that I do, he plays Muse to soothe me.
  • He drives me three hours away to see them play live, since they’ve only played in my city once. He sits in the stands, and I’m on the floor. It works for us.

Of course, it helps that he’s grown to like them too. Not as much as I do, but he does like them.

I appreciate him for not being a concert whiner. I had a couple of those in the early days.
I had one boyfriend who actually wanted to leave a show early because he got bored (2004, Absolution tour). Really?

I had another boyfriend (2006, Black Holes and Revelations tour) who didn’t want to go to the barrier because it would be too loud. Guess who got left behind?

After that, I started going to shows on my own until I met my husband.
So, a question for my fellow Redditors and Musers:
What are some of the ways your partners support your addiction?
Have any of you had to deal with sabotage? Or concert whiners?

Photos are mine, I think both from 2023
