Cold outreach: separate domain or main domain for ~20 B2B emails/day?
I’m setting up cold outreach for a small B2B service business and would appreciate advice from people who have actually done this at scale.
I’m planning to send around 20 highly targeted emails per day to relevant organisations. The emails will be personalised rather than mass/bulk spam.
My question is whether I should:
Use my main business domain, which is also used for my website and normal business/client communication; or
Buy a closely related secondary domain and use that exclusively for cold outreach.
My thinking is that a separate domain would protect the reputation of my main domain if the outreach generates spam complaints or deliverability problems.
The downside is that a second domain could potentially look less trustworthy, particularly if prospects check the domain.
For those who do B2B cold email:
What would you do at only ~20 emails/day?
Is a separate domain actually worthwhile at this volume?
Does using a secondary domain negatively affect trust/reply rates?
Would you warm up the secondary domain/mailbox, or just gradually increase legitimate sending?
At what volume would you consider a separate outreach domain essential?
Interested in practical experience rather than generic “cold email is dead” advice.
