Scientists live in your city

Hello! I’m a scientist for the state of CA and I live in EG. I’m not sure everyone is aware of what’s happening and wanted to offer resources. To recap:
Newsom implemented an RTO mandate for state workers and took away scientists’ contracted raise. For context, this raise is low and I’d receive about $135 but the cost to taxpayers for implementing RTO is very high ($225 million by the state’s own data). Yes, RTO and raises may not matter to you, but they should because the governor refused to bargain with unions over RTO and the 3% raise was approved in our contract that he signed last year. This is a HUGE threat to unions across the state because the governor is acting like a king and refusing to follow legal political processes. Additionally, I don’t want my taxes going to building leases and office space when it could go to things like improving the homelessness crisis and education! RTO is destroying my mental health

I was walking in downtown Sac and stepped wrong and almost rolled my ankle crossing the street right as a car was coming and my first thought was f that coulda gotten me on wfh for so long! Which like is kinda funny but in a dark way lol I have lost all self preservation….

I’m so sad

This sucks. I’m just so down about it every work day and tbh idk if we will win and I’m STRESSED about that and the raises stolen from scientists like 24/7 at this point. Is there any point in keeping hope alive? Hope for WFH to come back and hope to getting our contracted raises back. I just wake up sad everyday and go to bed sad everyday when I used to talk about how happy I was and how much I loved my job before the whole RTO bs.

Scott Wiener contact info

This man is behind the legislature leaving out State Scientist’s contracted raise. Feel free to call his office at 415-557-1300 and ask why someone who authored the Science Bill would illegally oppose our chump change 3% raise and is a proponent of RTO (which the state has data from 2024 about all the pollution savings from telework). Seems like he isn’t of or for the people.

CALL EVERYONE! We need our voices heard!

Call everyone to ensure the corruption behind RTO actually is heard. Call KCRA3 (916-444-7316) and Ami Bera (916-635-0505) and NPR (916-278-8900) and SacBee (916-321-1000) or email them. But we have to go the extra mile. I even called Bernie Sanders, AOC, and Pat Hume of Elk Grove. We have to bother these people and make them aware that the governor and CalHR are hurting us and taxpayers statewide. Be so annoying that they at least start having conversations about Newsom’s handling of this issue. Start calling other unions in CA as he has directly assaulted union rights. Do not lament on childcare or things of that nature as they diminish the legitimacy of our cause. Harp on the fact that our current salary deductions (PLP) isn’t being reported and if there’s money for RTO, then why isn’t there money for our salaries? Harp on the fact that CalHR illegally didn’t fund scientist’s contractually required raises or how much RTO costs the taxpayer or the lack of bargaining in good faith or building conditions. If we don’t change the rhetoric with the media, then we may lose this fight. NO ONE KNOWS THE REAL STORY AND WE HAVE TO BE THE ONES TO TELL IT.
