Please consider Angel Trees (Scalpers can even get a tax write off!)

Yall I’ve been thinking of how I hope lots of people are saving some of their collection for Angel Kid trees this year (that’s what I’m planning to do with most of the ones I hunted this summer mostly cause it was a fun hobby to look for them) and then I had a thought… if resellers can’t get rid of their stock, they should just donate to the Salvation Army and I’m pretty sure they’d get a receipt for a tax write off?

Maybe consider it? I know it would make many kids so happy!

Service Dog for undiagnosed Disability

Hey everyone,

I was hoping I could get some pointers or help for a question I have regarding my friend:

My friend is a T1D and often struggles with her CGM or pump malfunctioning/giving wrong readings. We both think that a SD could be a major relief in that area and based on my own experience I don't think it would be too hard to owner train a suited dog with alerting for lows (highs have not been that big of a problem for her) and bringing her juice packets if she doesn't feel like she can do it (which sometimes happens with lows at night). So far she says that she isn't worried about her safety enough yet to where she thinks putting in that work to train a dog and deal with public access issues etc.

Where the question comes in though is that she also has an undiagnosed heart issue where she will randomly have her heart start racing like crazy (can be at night, can be during the day, not related to any triggers her doctors could find so far, including mental triggers) which is often impacting her day to day life and she cant really do much about it except wait it out and lay down. I think the thing most mentally impacting her is that she cannot tell if this is just another random episode or if something is actually wrong with her heart in that moment. She of course has been to many doctors but so far no luck of a diagnosis. During her latest episode seeing how much she struggled with the doubts of "do I call for help or do I just wait" I was wondering if a service dog could help her make that distinction or at least make her feel more at ease? Or even detect an "episode" early to where maybe her laying down could prevent it from getting too bad?

A few questions would be:

  1. Is it even possible to train a "harmless episode or heart attack" task? The reason I was thinking about this was because I was thinking of SD for schizophrenics who have their SD help distinguish vs. real and not real. Only the thing is her episodes are real and similar to actual scary issues in symptoms so the nuance that one would need to teach the dog (e.g. racing heart only vs. racing heart and other symptoms that I do not know) might be impossible?

  2. Would early detection ACTUALLY be able to prevent an episode? So far her smart watch has not been able to help with any early alerts based on heart rate but I wonder if a dog would be able to pick up on enough clues (even ones she doesnt know herself yet) to alert early? But also... how would you train that then if you don't know the clues yourself?

  3. Would that training interfere with the SD's ability to help her with her T1D?

Grateful for any and all advice you all have!

$28 tickets are not a myth - Visa Presale Experience

I want to preface this by saying I feel extremely lucky that I was granted a 10am time slot yesterday. I am very very aware that this is not the standard and I am really thanking my lucky stars or whatever power made this happen.

Because I am seeing mostly people who have gotten more expensive tickets here in this subreddit I wanted to share that there are some of us that got those coveted $28 tickets. I am not going to lie I do feel guilty at times, like "why did I get this lucky and nobody else did? I don't deserve that" and I do not want to make anyone feel bad about the amazing tickets they did get just because I got cheaper ones.

About my experience: I logged onto the page early and refreshed at 10am, had to wait in a queue for about 25 minutes, and then went to check for the classic favorites like Gymnastics but there was nothing available but wheelchair seats. Eventually I went down my list of events I had written down that I was interested in and even though none of my top 15 were available I was able to secure a few of those $28 tickets, some for around $50 and some for just under $100 including one medalling event and those were all events that I was genuinely excited for and had in my top 50. I don't want to go into details about the events (I don't want people who know me to find my reddit account based on the events I told people I got tickets for) I also encountered the blue waiting screen a few times but it did not mess up my ticket purchases luckily. There were some site issues and things were deleted out of my cart even when I should have still had plenty of time through the timer but there was also a good amount of time until all the cheap tickets were gone. I bought my last tickets (at around $50) at just before 12pm. I just kept checking back at the events I was interested in and even if one had shown no tickets they would sometimes pop back up. However, after 12pm I could mostly find tickets for $100 and more.

I am posting this mostly to provide hope that there might be a chance that this experience could happen to some of you in drop 2 and to not give up. I did not get a time slot for drop 1 at all and neither did anyone close to me but I got so incredibly lucky with this visa presale. It is extremely lucky and I am so appreciative and grateful. I promise you all that I do not take this for granted. I am wishing you all that same luck for drop 2 from the bottom of my heart.
