Is holding alt (in build mode) still a thing? It still prevents objects snapping to the grid, but I feel like i don't have the freedom to put things wherever like i used to. One example would be I used to be able to hold alt while buildings a roof and everything connected seamlessly, now i have to leave a small gap between the wall and roof.
