I just finished The Undiscovered Country 30 minutes ago, here are some of my thoughts on the movies:

1. The Motion Picture:

I know this movie is quite divisive, but I like it a lot. It's the most sci-fi out of the tos movies, I just love how unique its style and tone are, and the score is absolutely beautiful.

2. The Wrath of Khan

This is probably the best tos movie, great writing, great acting, and the space battles are awesome, but tbh, it's not really my favorite. Probably because it's not exactly the kind of story I was looking for in Star Trek?

3. The Search for Spock

There are a lot of good elements in it, Christopher Lloyd as the Klingon captain, the final scene on Vulcan where Spock regains his memories, etc; but I didn't find this one as engaging as the previous 2 movies, still a pretty good movie though.

4. The Voyage Home

I usually don't like time travel stories in Star Trek, but I enjoyed this movie. It's light-hearted and actually pretty funny. The whole whale thing is such a out-there and extremely 80s idea.

5. The Final Frontier

I hate this movie. The plot felt like it was being made up as they went along, it's so stupid, but the worst thing is that all of the characters are just ever so slightly out-of-character. The only part I like is the scene where McCoy faces his own pain.

6. The Undiscovered Country

I was surprised by how good this movie was. There are some small tonal issues here and there, but I really really like this one. The dinner scene is uncomfortable in a good way, and I love that they spent a large portion of the movie searching for evidence on the ship. For some reason, this movie kind of has a TNG vibe to me? Maybe it's because Michael Dorn played the Klingon defence attorney?

It's more difficult to rank these movies than I thought, most of them have completely different strengths and weaknesses, but right now this is my personal ranking:

6>1>2>4>3>5
