Laid Off in China(Shanghai), Looking for Visa Extension Options
Long story short, I got laid off from a Chinese company due to budget cuts. My work permit has already been canceled, and I’m currently on a temporary 30-day visa that expires on June 12. Finding a new job within 30 days feels almost impossible right now. I’ve had some interviews, contacted a bunch of companies, and honestly got ghosted quite a lot.
Right now I’m looking into visa options to extend my stay. I heard I could do a visa run to Hong Kong and come back on a tourist visa, but it seems like a gamble since there’s no guarantee whether they’ll give 30, 60, or 90 days.
Another option I’m considering is a student visa. The X2 is only for 180 days, which is okay but not ideal. The X1 would be better long term while I find another job, but from what I understand I’d need to attend classes pretty much every day, and I’d really rather avoid that if possible.
I’m currently in Shanghai. Does anyone know any private schools or agencies that can help with student visa applications? Also, are non-degree university language programs still available during the summer or around this time?
I know the timing is terrible, but I’m honestly running out of options and time. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
