Totally nailed it. I was scrolling and knew instantly who he was trolling when I saw the wig.

After episode 10, I'm seeing a ton of people confused about why the random deaths we've seen (like the drug dealer being eaten by the tornado) don't count as a sacrifice.

I think it will help if you think of the offerings/sacrifice in more of a religious aspect.

In this case, the Island = God (any god, any religion, you pick)

God is pissed for whatever reason and demands an offering. In this case, it wants a human sacrifice. This sacrifice needs to be done ritualistically at an "altar" (aka the room with the chair in the tunnels).

In all sorts of religions, sacrifices are when you give up something important to you (like a lamb if you're a shepherd) and you must do so in. a formal ceremony as part of the sacrifice. If not done correctly, it is not a sacrifice.

And if God doesn't get their offering, god is pissed and deploys plagues and horrors upon the land. The people who die in these plagues are not considered sacrifices, they are just casualties and the consequences of disobeying god. More will die until God gets the formal sacrifice it demands.
