[Wind of Change // 1.1.1989] The Soviet Gambit [Teaser]

,,A mod set on January 1, 1989. How will you navigate the Fall of the Soviet Bloc, and a New World?”

//

For decades, the Soviet Union stood as one of the two great powers of the world.

But now? The republics are growing restless, and inside the Kremlin, the men who built the Union are beginning to disagree on how to save it, and every reform seems to send us two steps backward...

But outside Moscow, the clock is already ticking.

You will have to hold together a country that is becoming increasingly difficult to govern with every passing month, balance a military and political conglomerate that may no longer be content with you if you do not play your cards right, and confront republics that are beginning to question whether the Soviet Union has a future at all.

And when August 1991 arrives, everything you have built will be put to the test.

[Wind of Change // 1.1.1989] The Fate of East Germany [Teaser]

,,A mod set on January 1, 1989. How will you navigate the Fall of the Soviet Bloc, and a new world?”

//

It’s not looking good for the future of the DDR. Comrade Honecker steps down and leaves a mess behind that the remaining SED politicians can’t clean up. Krenz is left with rubble and a reunification seems inevitable. Not just that, but Press Speaker Günter Schabowski accidentally opens the border to West Germany, resulting in the notorious "Mauerfall" or fall of the Berlin Wall.

1990 is filled with new issues and the question…

"Will Germany reunify?"

This will be answered by the choice of Minister President and the choice of Chancellor in the parallel election in West Germany!

[1989/Wind of Change] Post-Soviet Collapse Paths - New-Wave Reformists [1/4]

//
//

With the collapse of the Soviet Union and the installment of President Yeltsin [or Gaidar, and a few others unlisted as options later on] as the first democratic leader of the Russian Federation, a new dawn approaches the Russian people and our outlook on global affairs.

However, not all is said and done.

With our economy taking a large hit, and many suddenly out of the Soviet-era encompassing by welfare net, many are looking towards alternative solutions, some more radical than others. We must do whatever we can to minimize our descent into chaos.

…

Unless…?

First proper teaser here! [well second, as this was re uploaded for breaking a rule on accident here. Sorry!]

The other 3 listed on the left side will be released next, in their respective order shown

Note: This path is mostly for players that like nation-building, micro-managing, tough decisions, etc.
The other 3 will focus more on warfare, reconquering, consolidation, radical ideological change, etc.

1989 Scenario - Wind of Change [Recruitment+Proof of Concept]

Hey everyone, I'm pleased to announce my mod I've been building over the whole summer, and to recruit some people willing to help develop it. This is my first post about this project here

While it's not available to play on the workshop as of now [even though there is 1yr+ of playable content for the USSR], I wanted to announce this as a dev-recruitment post/proof-of-concept. I'm looking for people interested in joining this project as a proper devteam. I don't really require a team to finish them, but it would be a whole lot faster, and more fun

I've spent the last 4 months working on this mod solo in my free time, if you'd like to join the dev team, there are a few rules in the server for the beta, more info in discord server if you’d like to apply

Intro:

Wind of Change [WoC] is a mod set at one of the most important turning points of the modern world, January 1, 1989

With the Cold War coming to an end, and the end of the century approaching, the Soviet Union is beginning to erode and crack under its own weight, and the entire world is entering a period where almost everything and anything can change...

Gaddafi's Libya, Hussein's Iraq, Xiaoping's China, Sung's North Korea, Pol Pot's insurgency, Operation Desert Storm on the horizon, Yugoslavia beginning to tear down, multiple civil wars across the world active, China's protests fast approaching, the Soviet Bloc collapsing in on itself, Germany beginning reunification, the upcoming Congo Wars, current civil wars around the world, the Soviet Union itself nearing its end… the world of the late 80s to late 90s.

You can either follow the historical timeline and see how the events of the late Cold War unfold [Yes, the historical button will work in this mod], or take the world in a utterly and completely different direction...

Play as one of the major powers [Start paths: People's Republic of China, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, United States of America are probably start paths. Will most likely be expanded]

Navigate the Soviet Union through exponentially increasing political instability, fervent factionalism, an incoming total economic breakdown, internal anti-Soviet resistance and conflicts, and clinging onto your last lifethread. Choose between the *Reformists*, who seek to… well reform, the Soviet structure, or the *Hardliners* and try to save the Union through an iron fist. The situation around you will become ever-more daunting, and you will have to make sacrifices in some areas to achieve victory in others, playing a delicate, fine game of balancing, along with the desperate attempts to fix your economic woes. Will the Union endure, collapse, reform, or transform into another beast, whatever it may be?

Navigate the People's Republic of China through a relatively peaceful start, quickly descending into chaos driven by the death of Hu Yaobang, a beloved reformer and anti-authoritarian socialist. Choose between the Chinese Communist Party, where the situation will become increasingly hard to control unless you crack down, the Student Protesters where you have to circumvent national-level resistance to your movement, and carefully organize underground resistance networks to eventually, hopefully, reinstate a more democratic government in china, or the Military Apparatus, where you can intentionally lose to the student protesters as an alibi to launch a military coup against the state and re-instate Maoism, or something totally new...

Navigate the United States of America through a period of almost total unipolar dominance, but with a divided internal population, persistent economic and social problems, and a rapidly changing international order. As a "new world order", and a hyperpower, the United States is the sole worldwide competitor, at least compared to the decaying Soviet Union and the relatively weak but rapidly developing China. However, that could all change with a series of events, and if the right cards are somehow played, then the United States could end up devolving into a disfigured, unrecognizable entity in just a few short years...

There will be a handful countries to play on launch, with various different paths to take, and a large amount of history waiting to be explored.
How much of that history remains the same, and sane, is ultimately up to you…

Overhaul Question

I'm aiming to do a minor/semi-overhaul

Is it better if I first make a "skeleton" base content {Generic focus trees for every country, no decisions, no spirits, etc},

or should I overwrite necessary files as I go along?

I tend to lean toward the first because changing even, say, some states around in europe, would cause 1939 German AI to basically stall, and give me thousands of errors, but then again, I would have to basically rebuild hoi4.

Any thoughts?
