RX 6800 XT — persistent ghosting in multiple games and monitors, even with FG off
RX 6800 XT — persistent ghosting in multiple games and monitors
I’m trying to solve a persistent in-game ghosting/trailing issue that has been happening for months.
PC:
RX 6800 XT XFX MERC319
Ryzen 7 5800X
MSI B550 Gaming Plus
32 GB RAM
Windows 10 22H2
AMD Adrenalin 26.9.2
The issue looks like a duplicate/trailing image behind HUD elements, crosshairs, binoculars, etc., especially during camera movement.
The important part: it happens across many different games and engines, including:
Battlefield 6 (Frostbite)
Cyberpunk 2077 (REDengine)
STALKER 2 (UE5)
Ace Combat 8 (UE5)
WARDOGS
Manor Lords
Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 (CryEngine)
Dirt Rally 2.0
It happens with and without Frame Generation, and some of these games don’t use FG at all.
I’ve also tested two different monitors independently, with only one connected at a time:
1440p Koorui
1080p monitor
Both show the same type of ghosting in games.
TestUFO looks clean.
I’ve already tried:
DDU + clean AMD driver installation
FreeSync OFF
AFMF OFF
Enhanced Sync/sync settings
Anti-Lag OFF
Radeon Boost OFF
RSR OFF
RIS OFF
GPU scaling ON/OFF
different refresh rates, including 120 Hz
different DP output
MPO-related workaround
single-monitor testing
Nothing consistently fixes it.
The weirdest clue is WARDOGS: enabling AMD’s Optimized V-Sync makes the ghosting disappear, although it causes another visual problem with vegetation.
The ghosting first appeared around February 2026, before I bought the 1440p monitor, so the 1440p screen cannot be the original cause.
At this point I’m wondering if this could be related to the AMD driver / Windows / DXGI presentation / synchronization path, rather than the games themselves.
Has anyone experienced something similar with an RX 6800 XT or another Radeon GPU and actually found the cause?
I’m especially interested in a real fix, not just generic DDU/FreeSync/monitor-overdrive suggestions, as I’ve already gone through those.
