Power throttling

Guys, how can I disable AMD Ryzen power throttling? I've tried everything on YouTube, but nothing worked. I experience severe performance throttling in games whenever my laptop is plugged in. However, as soon as I unplug the charger, everything goes back to normal.

Is a 30°C delta concerning?

Been doing some testing recently while paying closer attention to hotspot and VRAM temperatures of my GPU, and while my temperatures are well within spec, the discrepancy between my core temp and my hotspot temp seems a bit wide.

I have a Gigabyte GAMING OC 9070 XT. In my most graphically intensive games, the core stays at about 53-55°C tops, but my hotspot temperature will hover around 82-85°C. VRAM temps are usually slightly lower than the hotspot. Again, I know these temps by themselves are fine, but I had read that an ideal delta for these cards is usually in the range of 15-20°C. While mine sometimes approaches 30°C. Should I be worried about this?

Could this also be the result of pumpout of the thermal gel? My GPU is vertically mounted in a HYTE Y70 case, and I’ve had it for about 1 year. Should I consider repasting?

7900 XTX Driver Crash Issue — What Finally Helped Me

I wanted to share this in case it helps to everyone else dealing with the same frustrating issue.

I’ve been struggling for almost a year with my PowerColor Red Devil 7900 XTX randomly crashing. The usual symptoms were a black screen, audio sometimes lagging or cutting out, and then the PC would force restart. I tried almost everything I found across Reddit and other forums: different driver versions, settings changes, undervolting, disabling features, checking power, etc.

What finally made a huge difference was using the AMD Cleanup Utility and then reinstalling the latest AMD driver without Adrenalin — just the driver only.

Since doing that, it has been 42 days, and I’ve only had 2 crashes total. Before that, the crashes were happening constantly and made the card feel almost unusable.

Now I can turn on my PC and game for hours normally again.

I’m not saying this is a guaranteed fix for everyone, but if you’re dealing with black screen crashes or forced restarts on a 7900 XTX, it may be worth trying a clean driver install without the full Adrenalin software.

Hopefully this helps someone.

9800x3D in a custom loop, insanely high temps

Hi there,

Much like a lot of you, I have been watching the PC market situation in despair these past couple years, but have now finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade an almost 10 year old system.

I used to have a i5-6600k and a GTX1080 with a custom water cooling loop using EK water blocks. The system was virtually silent and I could not possibly get the CPU above 50 C and the GPU above 60 C even while running Prime95+Furmark simultaneously for over an hour. I am under no delusion that the new system is a 350W GPU and a ~130W CPU compared to the previous hardware and have seen all the "95C is the new normal" GN videos etc, but this is a bit ridiculous.

Please see if you can spot anything obvious.

I replaced the CPU and GPU blocks and painted them to match the system but nothing else changed (had to bend new tubes of course). I did change the loop direction and the CPU block is rotated 180 degrees but these should be of no consequence.

New specs:
ASUS TUF GAMING B650 PLUS WIFI motherboard
AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3D
2x16GB Crucial DDR5 Pro-6000 CP16G60C36U5B.M8D3
MSI Geforce RTX 5080 3x OC
SuperFlower LeadeX III 1000W PSU

Cooling:

>AlphaCool Core 1 LT CPU block
AlphaCool Core 5080 Waterblock
EK-CoolStream XE 360 6cm thick radiator
EKWB CoolStream CE 280 (Dual) Radiator
3xNoctua NF-A12 first gen on 360 rad
2xNoctua NF-A14x25 G2 on 480 rad
1xNoctua NF-A4x25r G2 case fan
AquaComputer D5 pump on full speed, not on PWM
AlphaCool AM5 offset mount
Thermal Grizzly Duronaut paste
Thermal Grizzly AM5 contact frame

I have had an absolutely atrocious time with AlphaCool, too long to go into detail but they sent me faulty parts 3 times (even as RMA!) , several packages got lost, absolute disaster. I have finally received a working cold plate for the CPU block even though its an older revision, but should just mean a couple degrees. Meaning, this should be one of the best CPU blocks currently available.

Lets go from the beginning: latest BIOS version 3854 2026-04-03, full reset, enabled EXPO 1 to 6000, nothing else, no PBO.

The system starts with a 45-50C CPU and 34C GPU when fresh.

Running Cinebench R23 instantly catapults the CPU to 92C, the core clocks seldom if ever reach the 5225 Mhz boost, they hover around 4990: 22166 points.

Enabled All Core Negative PBO: -15 (system is unstable at -20)

Core clocks go up to around 5100, score: 22756

I tried various settings after this: scalar to 1x, which made the cores peak at 5225 Mhz more often, but the score was around 16000 which made no sense to me.

Enabling a positive PBO of +150 MHz makes the ceiling higher at 5375 but the cores still hover around 5100 no matter what, thermal limit is at 85C. (Same as at 90).

ASUS overclocking did nothing, core optimizer for games is off, special R23 profiles are off. Cannot find the popular setting for "overclock limit: motherboard" in my BIOS. I haven't changed any voltages or disabled current limites or anything dangerous.

Here is what is baffling to me:

Thermal Throttling (HTC) has never been 1 in HWInfo.

The GPU never heats up even by 0.1C during these tests. I can run Furmark on 4K Ultra for 1 hour and the GPU will saturate at 80C which seems to be ceiling. It will jump from 38C to 56C and slowly climb to that temperature over an hour. This will in turn slowly heat up the CPU which will take on the temperature of the water. However, how can a 92C CPU not heat up the water even a little bit for the GPU to get warmer over 40 minutes of testing? I know its 140W vs 350W but not even a half degree?

Stopping the tests immediately drops Tdie to 51C range.

It would indicate that the CPU block is not seated properly or something is wrong with the flow rate, but trust me they are on. I disassembled, drained the loop, etc a dozen times, I tried 3 different versions of this CPU block from AlphaCool becuase they screwed me over several times. I even fastened the thumbscrews on with a screwdriver (carefully) which you are not meant to do. I dremeled off 2mm of the offset mount. I installed the block without the offset mount. I removed the contact frame and put the original socket back. All of these made zero difference. The water flow rate is good, this single pump should be more than enough.

Now compare this to a test like KitGuruTech or GN or Der8auer: https://youtu.be/j8eZSt4f6tw?t=496

Max temps around 67C with a 360 AIO??

constant boost clock of 5215, vs my 5100 jumping around

package power 131W vs 146W for me

Voltages around 1.170V vs 1.190V and 1.203V for me

Cinebench score 23313 vs 22578 for me

I can game in Cyberpunk at around 70C then quit and open a browser for the temps to shoot up to a 92C spike. This is ridiculous!

I have posted a picture of the loop and several HWInfo charts into this album:

https://imgur.com/a/892hV00

Please let me know if I can supply any more information, thanks for any help!

Switching to 9070 XT felt like it had more input lag over NVIDIA. So I investigated the latency difference.

I switched from 5060 Ti 16GB to 9070 XT a few days ago, and when I hit up Overwatch 2, the AMD card felt sluggish compared to my RTX. I posted about it in this subreddit too: https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/s/3xyBI5GP15

So I finally decided to test the latency comparing 9070 XT vs 5060 Ti, matching as much as possible the same FPS, GPU, and CPU load.

Tested through 240fps slow mo on iphone recording mouse and monitor at the same time. I flick the mouse with finger and count the frames between first frame of mouse movement and first frame of monitor movement. I also used freesync and g-sync for both. My monitor is 160hz.

9070 XT:
90fps/hz (100% gpu util) - 10.16 frames/42.3ms
120fps/hz (100% gpu util) - 8.25 frames/34.4ms
153fps/hz (60% gpu util) - 5.3 frames/22.1ms

5060 Ti 16GB:
90fps/hz (100% gpu util) - 10.22 frames/42.6ms
120fps/hz (100% gpu util) - 7.77 frames/32.4ms
153fps/hz (60% gpu util) - 5.3 frames/22.1ms

I asked ChatGPT for a standard deviation (I don’t really know what it’s called) and it said 90 fps has a 5.6ms uncertainty, 120 fps has a 4.2ms uncertainty, and 153 fps has a 3.3ms uncertainty.

I also only took 10 data points each game scenario.

But all in all, I think I was just used to playing with Reflex + Boost, and when I started using the 9070 XT, it felt sluggish.

I tested Reflex also, which is basically 15-20% faster (60% gpu util only tho). But thats with an uncertainty of 3.3ms uncertainty.

TLDR; As far as I can test with my phone slow-mo, there are no differences in latency between AMD and NVIDIA without Anti-Lag or Reflex.

RX 7800XT + Win11 — system hangs (Kernel-Power 41) after hours with display off, only 26.3.1 driver is stable, EVERY version after it breaks

Body:

Hi all, hoping someone else has hit this — it's oddly specific but very consistent.

Setup:

GPU: RX 7800XT

CPU: i5-13500

RAM: 32GB

Storage: NVMe SN770 2TB

PSU: Corsair RM850

Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B760-Plus WiFi D4

OS: Windows 11 25H2

Displays: 2 monitors connected via DisplayPort

The problem:

If I leave the PC on with the monitors powered off (display sleep, not system sleep) for a few hours, the system hard-hangs completely — no BSOD, no minidump, just a frozen system that needs a manual hard reset. Event Viewer shows a Critical Kernel-Power, Event ID 41 (unexpected reboot, not a clean shutdown) right after. Following that, Windows won't boot properly — I have to go into Safe Mode, run DDU to strip the AMD driver, and reinstall from scratch to get back to a working state.

Key finding: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1 is 100% stable — I can leave the display off for as long as I want, no crash, ever. Every single driver version released after 26.3.1 reproduces this exact crash within a few hours of the display going to sleep. Tested multiple versions in between, not just jumping to latest — same result every time.

What I've ruled out / tried:

PSU is not the culprit (Corsair RM850, stable on 26.3.1 under identical conditions)

Disabled Zero RPM — no change

Installed "Driver Only" (no Adrenalin software) — same crash

Disabled ALL PCIe ASPM variants in BIOS (Native ASPM, PCH-PCIe, DMI Link ASPM Control, PEG-ASPM, DMI ASPM, DMI Gen3 ASPM) + PCIe Clock Gating — no change

Tested with only a single monitor connected (unplugged the second DisplayPort) — same crash, so it's not a multi-monitor-specific issue

No hybrid iGPU conflict confirmed (monitors connected directly to the dGPU, not the motherboard)

No minidump generated on crash — this is a true hard hang, not a bugcheck, so standard crash-dump tools can't capture it.

Not the same as the well-known 26.6.2 Code-43-on-install bug — that one's Windows 10 specific and happens right after install. Mine happens on Windows 11, only after hours of display-off idle, and has been present across every version since 26.3.1 (including current 26.6.4).

Has anyone else seen this exact pattern — display-off idle hard hang, RX 7800XT, Win11? Trying to figure out if this is a known regression AMD just hasn't documented, or if I've got something unusual going on. Have already submitted this to AMD's Bug Report Tool.

Yet another AMD driver issue post

This may be a longer post but I wanted to make sure I've included as my information as possible to help.

Background
My Partner built herself a brand new PC at Christmas time and assembled it early January. She built it with the soul purpose of being her gaming PC and has also started using it as her streaming PC.

Around the start of May she has had a constant PC crash going 3-4 days between and as short as an hour. I believed the issue was caused by FH6 as when it came out a lot of players were having similar issues. However it happens in every game she's played since then, So maybe just a coincidence? I'm not sure at this rate.

About a week into the crashes I rang the company we bought the video card off and explained the issues we were having and they told use to send it back. 3 weeks later, their 2 techs couldn't get any of the same result on the card and when they sent it back to gigabyte, after 24 hours the card only crashed once on OCCT. They sent it back (Which I'm still salty about as I had to pay shipping costs and was down 3 weeks for nothing) and believed it was something to do with her PC.

During the time they had the card I donated my 4090 ASUS card and she didn't have any issues during the month it was gone, not a single crash. I believe the issue is related to the card however when I tried it in my PC, nothing, I get a flawless working card and all I do is plug and play. Talking to the techs from the company we bought it from, Said they didn't see any issues, Both gigabyte and the techs have physically opened the card as they stated.

Event Viewer and Reliability monitor both spit out the same driver codes that you've all been seeing a million times over, However the actual crashes she is getting have been different almost every time, from complete green screens and audio looping to almost as if we've had a power outage and it's just completely black, I've seen the card be disabled by windows in device manager and I've also seen a simple restart fix it. Only once has a watchdog report not blamed the drivers and that was a DirectX error.

Now since gigabyte have sent the card back, I've done countless hours of benchmarking on the games she plays and also standard benchmarks we all use to try and find a trigger, I have come up dry for weeks now, I have never been able to overload the card into crashing on me. Below are the steps I've taken to fix the dreaded cause. While doing all this testing, I've been keeping a close eye to make sure it's not boosting above factory and also watching all the temps etc to make sure it's not having any issue there.

Specifications
CPU - Ultra 265K
Asus ROG Z890-F
32GB TEAMGROUP - Delta: 6000mhz 2x16gb
Gigabyte Aorus Elite - Radeon 9070xt
Lian Li - 1300PSU
Case and fans and all fancy accessories are Lian Li to keep it simple

All Troubleshooting Steps Taken;

Starting physically;
I've re-seated the GPU, Ram and CPU. Used both HDMI and DP port cables(About 4 known working cables for both). Not using a riser cable.

Used different PCIE cables and made sure they were all in the correct spots in the PSU, Ensured there was correct contact from the cables to both GPU and PSU, I've also used my PSU cables as we have the same PSU. I've disconnected monitors, accessories. I've also used different peripherals.

I have also used both the perf and silent switch on the card.

Troubleshooting steps Taken software related

Updated BIOS to the latest version, Also reverted back to the version the board had installed when it was built in January.

Forced PCIE 5.0, 4.0, 3.0 - No auto setting.
Memtest86 - No errors have occurred, tested 3 times.
XMP disabled/enabled
No CPU overclocks, Factory settings.
Windows Install
Resize BAR disabled/enabled - Having this off created less crashes temporarily.
Using H264 and H265 encoders while streaming hasn't changed the crashes.

Fresh install of every known stable driver from OCT to now.(I haven't gone through every driver, just the most common ones I keep seeing people say are stable) I've also used no adrenaline and used it, I've ran the factory settings and also used DDU to get rid of the nvidia stuff as well. I've also just installed them regularly as I've read sometimes that helps.

Underclocked and also overclocked the card. The adrenaline software has offset now so with a bit of math I've dropped the hertz 100 off the factory settings. I've also just ran it as you would out of the box.

HAGS on/off and I've also turned it off in the apps as I know some don't care about windows settings. The ones that can't be turned off or don't have the option I've just ensured they weren't running.

Fast boot on/off

Removed background apps, such as GCC and all the asus software(Made sure they're not running in the background on task manager)

NOTES

At what point should I be sending it back? I mean is there a case that there is a hardware issue that isn't occuring on 3 test benches and my PC, Like only her specific workflow is triggering it? It's driving me insane.

EDIT: Since it's an on going issue I'll be adding any new troubleshooting steps here as well as forgotten ones.

- Used AMD cleanup along side DDU (Not at the same time but basically the same process with each, Following the guide from the subreddit)

-MPO on/off

Usei DDU
Testei várias versões de drivers da gráfica
Testei as RAM com XMP ligado e desligado
Fui vendo algumas configurações para tentar perceber se o problema vinha de software, drivers ou hardware
O meu setup:
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
Motherboard: MSI B550 Tomahawk Max WiFi
RAM: Corsair RGB Pro 32GB (2x16) 3600MHz
PSU: Corsair RM850x

Graphics blurry in games.

Hi all,

I ordered my first prebuilt pc and completely new to pc gaming.

Here are the specs if needed:

Ryzen 5 7500f

9060XT (16gb)

16gb ram

I started playing a couple of games like Detroit become human and need for speed heat, but I noticed that the graphics looked blurry. When just driving around the map in need for speed heat, the fences looked really blurry almost like playing on an older gen console. My pc has a 9060xt (16gb) which I assume should be able to run these games easily at 1080p.

I tried disabling FSR but it didn't help and looked the same. I also checked adrenalin and it says all my drivers are up to date. I also changed from my display port to HDMI but the results were still the same.

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated and helpful as I'm still new to pc gaming.

Microstutters

I recently bought a new build with an rx 9060xt 16gb, however I’ve noticed microstuttering in games which aren’t as consistent but they still occur almost every game, I’ve played multiple to make sure it isn’t shader compilation and I’ve also done many other steps including.

memtest86
Reseating both ram and gpu
Turn expo off and on
Bios update
Driver rollback
Disable Ethernet and wifi

Nothing still seems to work, it runs at high fps but it’s just not a smooth gaming performance.

Specs:
Gigabyte B650 gaming plus wifi
32GB ddr5 CL40
Ryzen 5 7500f
Rx 9060xt 16gb
SPP nvme ssd

Any help is much appreciated:)

Are you guys updating to the latest BIOS as soon as they become available?

So, it's been more than a year since I went back to AMD after running Intel exclusively for about 10 to 12 years, and honestly it's been amazing, the performance has been rock solid on every game I've played.

I do have noticed something, what's with the insane amount of UEFI/BIOS updates for AMD motherboards? with Intel, I saw maybe 1 or 2 BIOS updates every year or so, but with AM5, I've seen a new BIOS almost every couple of weeks.

Should I be updating to the latest as soon as they become available? what is the right move here?

Thanks.

AM4 motherboard just died, advice?

Hi everyone,

This is my current build which started with a 2200g -> upgraded to 3600 -> upgraded again to 5700x3d now:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X3D (Q1 2024)
  • GPU: RX 6900 XT Formula OC
  • PSU: Super Flower VII Gold 1000W
  • RAM: 32GB CORSAIR Vengeance RGB RT
  • Motherboard: MSI B450M Bazooka V2 (Oldest component from July 2019)
  • Storage: Kingston KC3000 2TB
  • Cooler: Deepcool Gammaxx GTE V2
  • Case: Deepcool CH370 mATX

The B450 motherboard is from 2019, but everything else has been upgraded over the years, with the oldest of the upgraded components being purchased in 2024. I bought the RAM and most of the other parts before the AI boom, so my original plan was to keep this build until AM6.

Unfortunately, I think my motherboard has died. I've tried pretty much every troubleshooting step I can think of:

  • Cleared CMOS
  • Bare-bones bench test
  • Removed GPU, RAM, and all usb drives
  • Reseated the CPU
  • Verified the PSU powers on with the paperclip test

No matter what I do, I get a solid CPU debug LED, no POST, and no speaker beep at all.

At this point, I'm assuming the motherboard is the culprit (though I know it could still theoretically be the CPU right?).

My question is: would you spend $100–130 CAD on a used or budget B550 motherboard and ride out AM4 for another couple of years, or would you take this opportunity to move to AM5?

If you were in my position, what would you do?

Ryzen 5 5600XT running on 96 Celsius

Hi,

I recently bought a new Ryzen 5 5600XT and it runs idle on 55-60C, but when I play virtually any type of game, it goes up to 96C and it caps, so its not really changing.

My understanding is that for this CPU the “limit” is around 96C. It’s far from good or even optimal but it’s managable for the CPU in the short term.

I only installed the fan/cooling that came in the box with the CPU. Is it possible that the basic cooling is this bad? I checked the fan, it is mounted properly. It had paste, I mean I bought it brand new.

I’ll invest in a better cooling system anyways, thinking about buying a THERMALRIGHT - ASSASSIN X 120. But is there anything else I can check? Is this normal for a brand new CPU?

Thanks for the help!

PC Freezes a few minutes into the game after disabling iGPU

I recently updated my system to a new Ryzen 7 7800x3d, but I still use my old gpu RX 580.
Whenever I try to disable iGPU in BIOS or Device Manager my pc just freezes on the last frame a few minutes after launching any game. I have a feeling that it may be a driver problem/conflict with the RX 580 Legacy driver and iGPU’s driver, since I cannot use AMD HW H.264 (AVC) obs encoder because of an error it gives when iGPU is on. Should I DDU my drivers and try to install them with iGPU disabled? Any help would be appreciated.

In the game Ride 4 it constantly stutters and the audio glitches constantly after about 15 minutes of playing . I have reinstalled both new and old versions of adrenaline / drivers, I have used DDU without internet connected to try both old and new versions of the drivers, I have used the AMD driver removal software again without internet and tried both old and new driver versions , I have even Flashed my BIOS , I’ve checked all the cables are plugged in , I’ve disabled hard ware acceleration on everything and yet nothing has changed, I also have tried running one monitor instead of both and nothing again please help me!!!!! I’m not the smartest when it comes to pc softwares and the solutions AMD gave me did nothing I have a sapphire pulse rx 7800xt 16gb and run a ryzen 7 5700xt , motherboard is MSI b550-m pro VDH, I have 32gb of corsair vengeance rgb pro 3200mhz cl16 DDR4, my PSU is a triton 850rx, i run windows 10 64bit, and i use 2x Phillips freesync ips monitors.

Keep getting crashes

Hi everyone, I am writing because my games keep crashing, especially the most graphic intensive ones. I have been experiencing issues overall with the software, like the drivers randomly failing, but now it’s become especially insufferable.
I tried to clean reinstall the drivers, set the dedicated gpu as the main one ecc ecc, but nothing so far has worked.
I think it’s a gpu problem, as everything else seems to be working fine and the temps are ok.
For reference, I have a 16gb 9060 xt and a ryzen 5 7600x.
What can I do to fix this problem?
