Update service?

Just got my DBS through for starting my PGCE - should I enroll onto the Update Service so it's easier to keep up to date for future employment? Do schools allow checks through that or do they prefer to do their own fresh DBS checks?

Thank you

Recommendations on for digital notepad?

I'm starting teacher training next month (secondary, chemistry) and want something for taking notes while observing lessons and during uni lectures.

I struggle to take notes simultaneously and during undergrad just didn't take notes while in lectures, since lectures were recorded it wasn't a problem as I could watch/listen back and make notes then.

I'm even worse when I need to type so tend to prefer pen and paper but this isn't the best for practicality e.g. being able to search for terms to find the notes you want, always having all your notes with you.

So I'm thinking about getting a digital notebook but it seems they're all pretty expensive so I don't want to buy one if it's not actually very helpful.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Is the Kindle Scribe a good idea for university/teacher training?

Hi,

I'm considering a Scribe for teacher training course - so some university lectures and assignments and a lot of time in schools, observing, planning, teaching, keeping portfolio etc.

I struggle with note taking during lectures/while observing something especially when I'm trying to type so tend to just go with pen and paper but obviously that can be less practical.

I'm looking for answers to any of these questions:

Has anybody used the Scribe for similar purposes, and did it work well?

Does it stay on, like a tablet or phone? Or do you need to turn it on/log in every time like a laptop?

Can you search your hand-written notes for specific terms?

Can you upload photos e.g. photos of physical paper notes so I can have them collated digitally?

Is the screen quite easy on your eyes (as I get migraines)?

How often do you need to get new tips?

If you ever stop using the Scribe altogether, can you keep your notes? I know Amazon is crappy with you not actually ever owning anything so I know any books you wouldn't keep but what about annotated PDFs and your own notes in the notebook? Are they linked to your Amazon account, can you export them?

Anything else you think it'd be helpful to mention? (I'm not very technologically aware so open to hearing and tips or advice)

Thanks for your help

Sort of a variation on the age old question of location Vs house size

Hi,

I'm looking to move out of my family home (renting at first, at least long enough to get a sense of where I want to live). But the city I live in is way too expensive for me to stay in, so I'm researching different locations (as much as you can without actually being there) and am torn between areas around a 3hr drive away from my home city or going further afield and having around a 5hr drive anytime I want to come home, see family etc.

If I went further afield I could have a bigger place, more suitable for me but 5hrs feels too far to keep decent connections with family and friends I have here.

A 3hr drive feels more reasonable - could leave straight after work on a Friday and get back to my home city at a reasonable hour. Could leave my place early on a Saturday morning and be back here by 10am, could be having dinner/event with family/friends in my home city and even if I left at 9pm, I could be at mine by midnight. But my place would be significantly smaller, like a studio/small 1 bed flat, which would make it hard to have space for a desk etc. for when I have to bring work home.

Of course the best way to know what works best for me is to try it and see, but just wanted to see what other people who may have experience moving away from family/friends etc. think?

Thanks
